To cut a long story short I quit playing this game after patch 1 as there was no way for me to achieve the story direction I wanted i.e. helping the tieflings in Act 1 while keeping Minthara alive. For me it makes no sense to have to kill her from an RP perspective as I can think of many reasonable ways of treading the middle ground.
But I keep seeing articles popping up saying it is possible to achieve this in an unmodded game. Recently one such article said you could knock her out non-lethally at the goblins vs grove encounter.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried doing that recently and can confirm it works or if anyone's found another way of achieving the same outcome without mods?

It can be done with the use of a series of elaborate glitches and exploits, but it's not really worth doing it that way. The game tries to make the non-default (evil) path as unappealing as possible.

As of Hotfix 10, there is no way to keep them both in the same playthrough without mods. The KO method has been patched out afaik, you can only do it with the Sheepthara exploit. There is a datamine from Patch 4 which hints at a new possible way to recruit Minthara in a future update, but the devnote indicates it would still be at the expense of the tieflings. Consider sending Larian your feedback if you think this particular aspect is a dealbreaker, it would be a shame if you bought the game but never played it again.

Oh wow I didn't know Sheepthara method was a real thing. This would actually solve my problem and the whole absurdity of the method might be just what I need to enjoy the game again. I'll dust off my monitor, get myself from level 5 to level 7 and give this a shot. I'll make sure I disable auto-updates for now too in case Larian patch it out. Big thumbs up, thanks.

No problem! Glad to see it's motivated you again. I hear this method can be finicky for some people, so save often and be patient if it doesn't work right away. Think of it as a fun heist on the side (until Larian hopefully adds an official route).

Wasn't the datamine about not being able to have both Minthara and Halsin in the party? I remeber the dialogue that suggested that even if we don't side with either of them, they'll make us chose one of them

That dialogue is triggered by a series of events that are written in the devnote and this can be considered a new way to recruit her. There is also a dialogue parser that reveals Minthara having a reaction to you knocking her out, and it is hinted she can join the party that way. So, chances are, the KO method will make a return in a future update.

Be interesting if, in a few years, there will be kids who can freely recruit Minthara and Halsin together, with Larian's permission.
Then there will be some crazed oldies reminding the young ones of how, 'back in the day', we used to have to turn Minthara into a sheep and carry her around in our backpack.
"Those were the days"
o.o

Noooo, you make it sound like it will be added in 60 years XD
On a serious note, last chance we get to see any major changes is when they release a Definitive Edition, which is speculated to be next year. The Sheepthara heist is definitely something you can (and should) tell your children though.
