I find that it’s true that the game can simultaneously be too much and too little, overwhelming in its scope at times (e.g., Act 3) while missing little touches that you might intuitively expect. Like a cleric being recognized as a follower of a god while being in the temple of that god.
I think that's beautifully said, truly. Sums up how I feel about it all exactly. A beautiful game that has some real head slap "you missed this opportunity?!?" moments.
Not just missed opportunities, but in my opinion muddled lore and mechanics.
As mentioned in another thread, the Dwarves are a much more lore iconic and common race than Tiefling, Githyanki, or Dragonborn and yet get no love compared to these three or even real representation. Lore basics like Paladin's choosing a God where removed from EA with no real explanation or reasoning. Racial differences where partially neutered with the move away from the PHB racial bonuses. Then finally you get no reward at all for resisting the infection and not giving in.
