Who are your favorite side characters (non-companions)?

Mine are:
1. Barcus Wroot
Act 1, We meet him tied to the Windmill.
Act 1.5, Killed Nere, saved the Ironhand Gnomes at grymforge, invited Barcus to stay at my camp (AND HE ACTUALLY CAME laugh laugh :D)
Act 2, Asks me to save Wulbren (Jerk) at Moonrise, builds me a brilliant retort bomb.
Act 3, Destroyed the Steel Foundry and Barcus becomes new leader of the ironhand gnomes. +1 Ally at final battle. ONG. Barcus we have come so far. Rune powder bombs and barrels for me. Yes.
2. Rolan the Tiefling. Loved the character development.
I can't believe he went from doing cheap firework tricks in Act 1, to running around in the dark in Act 2, to shooting literal fire canons at your enemies, from a floating wizard's tower during the final battle. A+ Rolan.
3. Emperor.
4. Withers.

Honorable Mentions
Naaber (Cohhcarnage = Amazing)
Quill Grootslang (Dragon Throat Singing)
Facemaker, because he gives me 60% discounts.

Hands down, I think the best writing and acting goes to animals. The Spiders in the Gobbo base, the various Cats and Dogs across Baldur's Gate, Scratch and Owlbear Cub - it all fits *SO* well. Even the disguised Redcap Sheep in the Swamp and the happy frog are hilarious. I found it especially cool to find out from a *cat* that there was a devil in the Brothel, or learn some of my own background from Steelclaw.

Perhaps they are too 'main character' but, Raphael and Auntie Ethel are personal favorites.

Hmm, the goblins. I hadn't thought too much of. I think my favorite goblin is the one cooking dwarves, wearing blue jeans. I also liked Goblin Klagga I think his name is, because
I found his stash of balled-up love letters to Minthara, behind a waterfall
LOL. The Kuo-Toa.
All Hail Mahkloompah!
I forgot about Thisobald.
The first time I killed him, my companions mentioned how he seemed more sad than evil. After that I always just slight-of-hand my way out of the drinking contest instead. "I'll drink to that! I'll drink to anything.. but especially that" I actually felt bad making him explode.

My favorite animals (aside from the obvious):
Myshka the cat
Myshka: Are you my mother? Me: It's me, my son. Mishka: MERMER!
His Majesty

You specifically mentioned Sazza,
Did you do the "She Cannot be Caged" achievement? You have to save her 3x. I've never saved her, so can she actually reach Baldur's Gate? xD

Sazza has
an achievement???????? Oh my god. I never ever managed to keep her alive. I have no idea how to do that.

As for my faves:
Isobel and Aylin,
Alfira and Lakrissa. Mol, I love that little shit. The Thorms were very fun as well.

And honorable mention to - some durge spoilers if you manage to knock out a certain someone:

Quil Grootslang whom you can have in your camp for a little after she meets her end. This was certainly a surprise as I didn't know you can save Alfira and i liked Quil a lot frown

I love QIll, she is so cute. And then you find her admirerer dead in Sarevoks dungeaon with an unsent love letter to her, so tragic.

Araj Oblodra. (The Drow blood-alchemist from Moonrise, but she gets really fun when you meet up again in the lower city)

She is pretty - that is my favourite elven face from the CC - , but she is one sick lady. Found her botched experiments in teh cellar the last playthrough (she died in Moonrise in teh first one)

If you want to expand BG3, it would be interesting to add more character strands for good and evil playthroughs etc. or even create new companions for the sides.

It would be a lot of fun to have a goblin like Sazza with you.

There are many generally interesting characters in BG3.

I would like to see an expansion of the depth and breadth of the game.

Breadth means that currently less represented races like dragonborn and orcs are developed more. But also more possibilities to play more evil races like goblins or to have companions like Dro'Ragzlin.

There is also room for improvement in terms of class depth. Let's take the typical Lolth dark elves and the worship of the spider deity. This can also be used to create a class of its own. A mixture of cleric and assa and warrior with a penchant for spider magic, spider conjuration, dark ritual magic, shadow magic and also being able to deal out a bit of damage with weapons.

Again, would be particularly good for an evil path.

An expansion of a druid class that focuses on the bestial path of the werewolf would also be conceivable. A companion that didn't make it into the game has also been leaked.

I could also list plenty of characters that I found interesting in the game or would have liked to have as companions because they appealed to me straight away.

But putting random characters into the game isn't that interesting in the end.

Just continue to expand on what already exists and refine it to make it even cooler.

Volo is fun. He's what I consider the quintessential Bard. Loud, funny and... Not very good at things.

Khaga. Most Druids in the game make Druidism feel like some sort of hippie cult. Khaga brings into things the Shadow Druids, dealing with moral dilemmas between protecting sacred ground and helping others and her own repentence. I honestly wish she joined our party instead of Halsin... Make it her penance where she has to go with you and reflect on her actions. I'd imagine her seeing the Shadow Cursed Lands in person would be a significant shock in regards to her decision to embrace shadows.

Lump. An articulate Ogre isn't something you see every day. The contrast of brute force and base instinct of "Just eat everything" and the intellect and spell casting he has is neat (Also cool to see that the reason he's so smart is because of the headband he's wearing). Shame that he won't follow you outside of Act 1 and that killing him for his headband is too good to pass up... I wonder how he'd react to the player licking the Spider corpse in Act 2?

The Monk Spirit from the pendant. A very minor character, but interesting nonetheless. Kind of want to see how a conversation between him and Volo would turn out honestly...

That is quite an understandable sentiment biggrin

But the animals in BG3 are really well done. I care about Scratches and Owlys well being more than about my own character.

I also do not like her. I generally have Astarion in my party and she makes him extremely uncomfortable. Not just the smell of her blood, but the way she treats him. She's a drow from a matriarchical society, so she objectifies him and refers to him as a belonging/posession. The second time I chose not to speak to her and the third time I killed her to see what loot she drops
(she drops a very good circlet for rangers).

I think if Astarion were not in my party and I just met her normally, I think her potions would be interesting.

Did you guys add US as a familiar? My first two playthroughs I completely missed it, but in Act 2, I found Us in the Mindflayer colony! Us was still alive and you can save it from its cage. Although, it was green and purple and not the pink it was in the beginning. Looked like someone poisoned it frown

Yes! And Chop has dialog about him and why he is in the cage. We truly saved him. Well, not the brain donor but he was a lost cause anyway.

Absolutely ^^

I really love what Larian did with Us for full release, as lots of people during Early Access were hoping to keep it after the prologue. So as a Ranger myself it was an incredibly welcome and pleasant surprise to see it become an actual Familiar.

And I also love the little lore about it using its psyonic abilities to appear to everyone else as a regular kitty grin

The mail carrier pigeons. Why was there only ONE scene with them?

Also...Bex, Danis, Roland and his siblings, Lakrissa, Alfira, every single cat, Mirkon (the only tiefling kid that I like, besides Umi), Aylin, Isobel, and Lorroakan (he's such a fantastic "scumbag" character).

My favourite side characters:

- Every cat (yes, Grub too)!
- Tara, because she is not a cat!
- Dammon - oh, I love his eyes!
- Omeluum. I hate mindflayers, but he's got a special place in my heart.
- Alfira and Lakrissa
- Raphael
- Ketheric Thorm - I tried to save him!

Araj is so delightfully crazy.

Tara (of course cat-auntie has to be mentioned), Rolan, Elminster, Arabella, Omeluum & Blurg, and Dame Aylin might make the top. I love how Tara and Elminster are written, Rolan has such a good story, Arabella is just a darling, Aylin is endearing in her loud, proud, straight forward manner and Omeluum and Blurg are just such wholesome bestis. I mean they discuss with each other what might be nice quest rewards for you. ^^

But it's hard to find a side character, I am indifferent about. I either really like them or really, really dislike them. I am looking at you Wulbren.

THIS! Maybe it's just me but her change of heart didn't seem convincing... seemed more "butt-kissing" after getting caught, instead of repentant. I really like your idea of Kagha accompanying us as penance rather than Halsin's "Oh, I'll come with you!" and ditching the druids a second time. Sure, he got someone else to cover for him this time at least, and I understand the desire to set things right from when he was there before but it still hits me as he's abandoning his duty to the grove (again!) because something else came up that he wanted to do more.

I actually considered downloading the mod where you could recruit her as a companion because it just seemed *right* that she joined my party, but many of the comments said it could mess up the game so I didn't. Sadness.

Oh, I hadn't seen this comment before, but I agree. The first time I uncovered her plot, I thought that taking her along would be great for her redemption - and with her disillusioned point of view seeing both the Shadow Curse and the city could have provided a great story for her.

The Tieflings from the Grove and onward, and in particular Alfira. This was a subplot where I felt engaged, seemingly responsible for these people.

Also, I was always amused by the way that Blurg would proclaim he was ready to trade: "I do enjoy a gud bahgen."

I just played the whole artificer plotline again ( you know, the one, starting with saving Barcus in act 1 and end with Gortash and the factory) and I just realised again, what a great character Barcus Wroot is. He has become not only my favourite side character, but it feels in the end, that he and my character are connecting as friends. I can see them in a year from now sitting in someone's home by the fire and exchanging stories over a good wine. It was even more impactful this playthrough, since my Durge is a drow. She is Seldarine, but Barcus was still weary. I suspect, he will react similar to my duergar Tav.

And I so appreciate Hope. I always wanted to do the deal with Raphael to get the different end scene and I end up doing the HoH heist anyway, because it is entertaining and I want to free Hope. I love her little rants and the actress doesn't get enough credit imo.
I wish, there would be more interaction with Korilla about her sister, so we would know in advance and maybe, Korilla, while loyal to Raphael as she obviously is, would want to get her sister out of the picture. She seemed to genuinely cared for her little sister in the past, given her journals, you can find, so I would have loved that explored more.

Same with Wulbren if you find his diary. I always want to try sheeping Korilla and see if you can somehow get around ending her but then my "Healer dies first" instinct strikes along with Astarion's daggers. >_>

Korilla isn't a healer though, she is a warlock. Between Raphael and his cambions, she is actually the most harmless foe. I just always forget Yugir - I convince him, to fight with me ( bards, I never had to reload for that 30 persuasion check) and then the first thing he doesis killing Korilla. Next time I won't convince him and see, if I can save Korilla somehow. It's harder to keep Hope alive then, I guess, since she gets focused by Raphael normally and Yugir will probably go after her too. He seems to focus on the enemies with the lowest health pools.

Now that you mention it, it does make more sense. She never got a single spell out. I my visits there, Raphael focused his ire on Gale while Hope had some manageable cambion troubles. For once I might be glad about the cocky wizard face aggro. ^^

Kethric, hardly a side character, but a worthy foe with plenty of set-up.

Oraj, a seductress character with convincing VA. Why no fling option?

Wulbren, I can appreciate his potty mouth and hate-filled drive - tied to events in BG1.

Did like flirty Lakrissa, but turned out just a tease. Disappointing.

Rolan, has some wild mood swing drama and difficult to get his happy ending.

Volo, useful and with character. An actually welcome camp follower, unlike the rest.

Many, if not all of the goblins. VA and distinctive lines for every one of them. FR is a bit poorer for their loss.

Don't like plot armoured NPCs unkillable outside certain cutscenes. Sorry, but that is not a TT experience. Still, only a few and largely ignorable.

Love that owlbear can go with you in the end!

Have any of you guys managed to save Korilla? I know it's possible to just knock her out and save her, but has anyone managed to persuade her to leave Raphael's side and help you and Hope instead?
You can talk to her before Raphael arrives. There were 5 options, but I didn't try them all. When Raphael arrives, I actually asked her if she wanted to swap sides and she said no. Just wondering if we could persuade her to change sides like Yurgir.

Speaking of Yurgir
did you guys know you can summon him as a final battle ally?! Apparently you need to break his contract then persuade him to join you during the Raphael battle. I wish I could see what he can do in battle, but I also don't know if that will mess up the Astarion questline, where we send Yurgir back to Raphael.

You don't even need to

break his contract. You can make a persuasion roll during the Raphael fight and get him that way.

I had him fight with me, both agains Raphaël and against the Netherbrain.
He must be the dumbest fighter I encountered in the whole game.
In the Raph fight you have these opponents that explode when you kill them, so I tried to keep my party members away from them and kill them from a distance.
But count on good old Yurgir to barge in and make them explode before the party gets a chance to clear away.
On the netherbrain I summoned him right next to the red dragon, as he's fire immune or resistent, don't remember now. But his performance was not impressive either.
I wish the AI fighters acted so dumb when they fought against me instead of alongside me.

I mean, Yugir is
not the sharpest tool in the shed. If you kill the last justiciar before meeting hem, he realises, that the song (his contract) is silent. But then Raphael barges in, telling Yugir something about, that he wasn't supposed to sucontract the killing and convinces him with no effort at all to do another deal. I was like 'Bro, how did you survive teh Blood War, being that dumb?'
So I don't really wonder about him being dumb in battle. I didn't have those problems with him running into explosing opponents, but if you have him on your side, he will just kill Korilla first.
