(Almost) the same thing happened to me.
- The option "These empty sheets..." caused the "handing over an item" animation. I did get a potion of greater healing, although there was no reward window or "item received" message or anything. My stack of potions just increased by one.
- The option "How can I trust..." has no effect. Bernard speaks his answering line, but there's no "handing over an item" animation, no quest reward window, and no ring on the table. It also didn't appear in my inventory.
I guess I won't finish the Arcane Tower until after this is fixed. I don't want to kill Bernard.
