I am not sure if Larian used Ed Greenwood as a consultant for BG3 but if they did not then it was an epic fail on their part. Just saw this video Ed di on Illithid and would love to see his specific vision of the realms used more often.

As far as I know Ed has only been peripherally involved in the lore writing of 5e. I believe at one point he mentioned on twitter that he was still in regular contact with some of the design team who would unofficially consult with him about things, implying he was not officially involved, despite it being based off a lot of his work.

If so, I wouldn't expect larian, being a 3rd party, to hit him up directly for their lore writing.

Yeah, that interview definitely sets a good background for the story development in BG3. And I think it may even go back farther in the BG series ... I always wondered what "The Hidden" was all about after finishing BG2.

In fact, after seeing Ed's video link here, it certainly appears quite possible that BG3 actually is the continuing story of The Hidden. That would make a lot of sense, and what a wonderful way to add another connection!
