That looks like a case of Larian's branching conversation trees and possibilities revealing themselves to not actually be as branching or varied as they pretend - it's the juxtaposition of one choice set jumping back to the main rail after you've taken it, and then resolving the main rail afterwards, irrespective of what you actually did and said before: Your approvals were for defending Wyll, and then for sending/allowing him to be sent to camp and/or saving him in general, as part of the overarching event.
