I've actually done this battle 2 ways,
One was talking my way out of it (Told her I was the toll collector, come to replace her), and the other was battling. When I battled her, she threw "gold" on the ground, but these gold pieces actually explode over time. I'm just wondering if you're trying to pick up her explosive gold, and it's not letting you.
Were you ever able to pick up the gold, prior to initiating the battle? You could test it by loading a save file prior to the battle, and see if you can pick up the gold then.
When I talk my way out of it, I can loot the gold without issue.
