The Game Awards 2023 are tonight! 7:30pm Eastern Time 4:30pm Pacific Time 12:30a GMT
What are your predictions? Who do you want to win GOTY?! ______________________
Considering we're on Larian's official forums, I personally would like the home team to take a full sweep. ALL THE WINS in ALL THEIR NOMINATIONS!! xD I know there have been issues and bugs, but they deserve this. I really want them to win, everything 8'D
Well now that the Game have closure for the two sides of the Tale.. I can say they deserve it. And be proud with the ludicrous amount of time i spend in this game so far. haha
(btw i normally dont like to praize and gave prizes to anyone.. but just this time i will give then a Brake. haha) So Nice One Larian.. 9/10 Fix the Rest and i can gave yu a 10/10
So I was on the fence about whether they deserved awards after Patch 4 (with its game-breaking bugs), but after Patch 5 and the addition of the epilogue, I think that they 100% deserve all the awards. I voted for them. I hope that they’re not done adding features to the game, though, because we could still use some at-will hugs, debugging Minthara, a few things like that.
Of the major releases this year I feel like the only worthy of consideration is BG3. I mean Starfield was a joke and still is, an open world that is EMPTY. Hogwarts was lackluster at best. Diablo was a mess that Blizzard just seemed to keep adding to. Redfall was, well just utter crap. Alan Wake was decent but did not gather the attention of BG3.
I voted for them for almost every category they were nominated for! There were a couple I thought games like Cyberpunk or Lies of P deserved more but, I absolutely voted for GOTY as well as Players' Voice.
Love you Larian! Love BG3! Once I experience the epilogues (I restarted entirely when they announced Patch 5), I'll know if it's my favorite game but it already won GOTY in my heart well before that.
I think BG3 has the award locked in. This forum tends to attract people with strong criticisms, justified or not, but if you take a cursory glance at most other forums, like the Starfield subreddit, you find near unanimous love for BG3 and players lamenting that their game wasn’t more like this in some way or another.
Good for Larian. They put a lot of work and passion into this game, and they deserve recognition. Winning a GotY award in a year that saw so many major releases is doubly impressive.
I hope they at least give that one out on stage instead of squeezing it in as an announcement between trailers. I'm finding this pretty funny, actually.
This is the first Game Awards I've ever watched. They sure do show a lot of, uh, filler, don't they.
Yeah, they really do. They need to find another way to monetize - how does the Academy Awards do it? We need to get this down to 2 hours. We are looking at 4 hours at this point.

The fact that Swen hasn’t been given an award yet is the clue that he is getting GotY. If he wasn’t they would have presented him another one.

Are there such things as "another way" apart from Marketing ads related to gaming to monetize TGA? I doubt it. Not that what we've seen is ideal.
I hope flying all the way from England/Belgium/etc. - with attendant jet lag - was worth it for those few minutes of acclaim! Next is the DICE Awards, I think, but not until February.
I am so excited for the team! This was the first Game Awards I've ever watched, and though I was fatigued by all the trailers by the end, I was so excited I couldn't stand it! Congratulations to you all for making such a fun, engaging, and addicting game.
the game awards are over and when is the release of BG3 on Xbox? Guys, it's really annoying, how can you neglect a console like that, impossible. Ok i See Fire:-) , is Release now THX

To be fair, general forums tend to be populated by general gaming audiences. To me BG3 also mainly is a fun, good RPG -- however far from faultless. For the general public, I'll put this bluntly: They haven't been exposed to an RPG proper in several generations of hardware now, as all big studios have started making interactive Hollywood action movies with some light RPG features attached. Additionally they haven't been exposed to a tabletop conversion "proper" probably ever, seeing how Bioware's last was Neverwinter Nights. Such an audience is always going to react a bit differently to one that's been exposed to that kind of experience ever since.
When BG3 started out development, my personal wish that it would fill those gaps in the market that have existed since: One the one hand kickstarters, indies, and AAs, mostly harkening back to what's been lost. On the other end the few remaining AAA studios, increasingly also targeting people who don't actually like RPGs as they used to be (to put it that way). With all the recognition alongside the commercial success, this seems to come true. Question is, what happens from here.
Anyway, congrats. An actual RPG setting the gaming world on fire seemed impossible just a decade ago. And one not being ashamed of being one nor hiding it, placing every dice roll front and centre.
Despite all my grumpiness and criticisms, I do think goty for BG3 is well deserved. Congratulations to Larian, and may they make many wonderful games to come.
Congrats Larian, I'm really happy for them. I just wish, Borislav would have gotten the price for best music too. This is the best music score, I have encountered in game so far.
"We are all stories in the end. Just make it a good one."
Nice One Larian.. But they could gave Gale and Halsin a award too.. for been the most anoying dudes in the entire Forgotten Helms.. thats really something no one ever made before i bet.. xD huahauhauhauhauha
But Good job Dudes after the New Ending yu did deserve it.. Now the game has a Real Closure for Both Sides of the Tale. 9/10
Totally color-coordinated and tweaked the first post with results!

What a ride! Nose to the grindstone for sure, such a great way to round out the year though. It made me smile that they won the crown there. This game kept me going at many points when the chips were down and things seemed pretty fucking bleak. Plague times were tough, but all shall be well, and all shall be well. It's total of the triumph of the spirit!
From my perspective, all of the awards were well-deserved, and at the same time, the game still needs an enormous amount of work. I’m starting to get “bug fatigue,” because at least one significant frustrating bug, and then a variety of smaller bugs that I don’t really care about, crop up EVERY time I sit down to play. I wish that the game would run properly, like it’s supposed to, so that I wouldn’t get tired of seeing every new bug.
From the game awards trailers, Exodus looks like it might be good! Companions, 3rd person & customizable pc!
I’m not sure about that game yet. The trailer that really blew me away was Monster Hunter Wild. That looked amazing. I’ve tried and never have been able to get into that series though.

Ixal was talking about BG3, because they for whatever reason feel the need to constantly remind the maybe 2 dozen people on this forum that they did not like the game.
I think Neil definitely deserved best performance. Frankly, most of the main cast could justify winning that one. Everything else though, I would say this game did not deserve them. I'm happy for Larian because I fully believe that they worked hard on this game and gave it their all, it's just that their all is... frustratingly middling.

Then again, sounds pretty much like Mass Effect 2.0, in which case I'm actually wondering why those guys left Bioware to begin with. Not merely in terms of the kind of game they are making as such -- but also but by directly competing with their former peers. I mean, this is the lead designer of Baldur's Gate setting up a new company under the wings of Wizards Of The Coast and he's straight back to where he left at his former employer.
Then again, BG3 had already been handed to Larian, so...

I love Mass Effect Trilogy, so Mass Effect Trilogy 2.0 sounds great to me!!!

With Matthew McConaughey!
As a former Austinite I cannot overstate how awesome a person McConaughey is and how shocked I was that he was going to lend his plethora of talents to this enterprise. I am more excited about Exodus than ME4.

Wasn't meant to say whether that is good or bad. However, it doesn't look like Larian are going to get direct competition now that they're equally in the triple-A field. Unless of course their next game/s are going to be Mass Effect-Likes as well.
In a sense, BG3 exists BECAUSE Bioware have moved into the Mass Effect direction. After all, Larian too were initially crowdfunded by players who yearned for games more similar to BG, which had pretty much disappeared from the market by the turn of the 2010s almost entirelly... When the Exodus trailer came on, I can't help but think that this prompted another big grin on Vincke's face. https://www.wired.com/2009/07/bioware-muzyka/
Congratulations, well deserved. I do wonder about the future because if anything not permitted to put on display in the Western world, it is creativity. That is exactly what Larian did and I believe that was the appeal why so many bought the game, weather aware or not. So, I believe there will be a reckoning and keeping Larian in priva

That does not match the perception I have of cultural works of the past years (and also not before). Creativity is financially risky, but it is very much permitted to put on display. Recently there even was a huge exhibition of the indie webcomic Pepper & Carrot in France — which is one of the most beautiful creative works of the past decade, and far outside the usual commercial sphere.
