Full BAFTA game awards longlist here. Most interesting to me are the performer nominations - Leading Role (Amelia Tyler as Narrator, Neil Newbon as Astarion, Samantha Béart as Karlach) and Supporting Role (Andrew Wincott as Raphael, Dave Jones as Halsin, Tracy Wiles as Jaheira). Mostly I'm thrilled to see Dave Jones in there (y'all know I'm a Halsin simp grin ) but I'm almost as thrilled to see Wiles and Wincott getting nods.

The shortlist won't be out for months, but this was fun to see.

Congrats to all the voice actors nominated! It’s especially great to see the supporting roles nominated as well! They did an amazing job!

Andrew Wincot tand Tracy Wiles certainly deserve the award, as would Amelia Tyler and Samatha Beart. Neil Newborn has two already, so he is good.
And the composer should get an award.

I really hope Dave wins! He certainly deserves it, he showed so much range in his role as Halsin.

Oh yeah, Auntie Ethels VA deserves an award too, she was one of the most entertaining villains around and it can't have been easy to do that voice the whole time.
Devra Wilde would deserve an award too. And the actor playing Ketheric. I find it a bit strange that the relative simple voicework of Halsin has deemed award worthy, but not the really great voiceworks of so many others. I would even see Jason Isaacs as Gortash worthy, since I think he does a great job balancing between menacing, friendly politician and downright loosing it. His role was small, but memorable.
And Barcus Wroot- going from devoted friend to finding his self esteem and become a leader was fricking amazing.

Every time I hear that "well hello there, sweetness" in the grove it honestly makes me happy lol. Like visiting the nice grandma.

And I also was surprised that Halsin is there, because to me he sounds very bland compared to some others. Both Gortash and Orin deserve a nomination.

Leading role is a tough competition, can't even try to predict who might win since they're all so good.

Supporting role however I really see Raphael in the lead, an amazing performance that really embodies a devil. If not then definitely Jaheira next.

And if Borislav Slavov does not win then it's going to be some major BS. He got robbed at VGAs! laezelmad

Yeah, I don't really understand why the one note performance that sound like a horny yoga mom all the time (Halsin) is in that list. That´s what the majority of my co-workers sound like after a few glasses of wine without even trying. To Dave Jones´credit he only had what was written to work with and he seems very professional and doing the best he can with what he was given.

Other great side characters worthy of note: Sazza, Mol, Tolna Tome-Monger

But there really shouldn't be any point to making additional suggestions, because Raphael would be miles ahead of anyone in the competition and if someone else wins over him there should be riots in the streets.

I assume that each studio is asked to submit a list of three nominees, which the BAFTA members then select from when making their shortlist. It's possible - if a company knows their list will be published - that they might submit names for other reasons than being the best performances. If one or more people are shoe-ins, a third person might be included just for a nice bit of recognition, something to go on their resume.

Obviously I think Dave Jones is amazing and deserves all sorts of awards, but he may just be on the list for recognition, not as a "serious" nomination. After all, it's pretty impressive for a part-time actor who got into all this late in life to be on a list like this at all. But I'm just speculating.

I'm not saying, Dave does a bad job, just that his role was pretty one note and easy and compared to the characters listed, Ethel, Gortash, Mol, Orin, Ketheric..., he is just ... bland.
I guess, there is nothing to worry though, since there is no way, the Raphael actor isn't getting that trophy. He gets praise all over the internet for his performance and rightfully so. He learned to sing for this role and did such a great job.

And yes, if Borislav doesn't get recognition here, I have to riot... politely of course.

The BAFTA considerations and even nominations are quite serious though.

Melina Juergens for example won the Best Actress BAFTA for her performance as Senua in the game "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" and she wasn't even an actress at the time. She was Ninja Theory's media manager/editor who was merely asked if she could step in while they were searching for an actual actress to fill the role, but she was so natural at it that they decided to make her Senua right on the spot (they have a documentary about it, it's quite a wonderful watch).

And she won against both Ashly Burch (Tiny Tina in Borderlands, Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn) and Laura Bailey (a voice acting veteran and part of the Matthew Mercer Critical Role DnD crew). Rightfully so because she was absolutely amazing as Senua.

Exactly! Dave Jones does an outstanding job! I think it’s great when someone part-time or new gets nominations and awards after doing an amazing job!

They all did a great job. I agree Auntie Ethel's VA should be on that list too. She's hilarious!

I think anyone who calls Dave's performance as Halsin "bland" has just plain not looked at most of his scenes. Him coming for revenge if the player raids the Grove?
The two Orin impersonation scenes?
Him yelling at Kagha if
Kagha kills Arabella?
The romance scenes? I don't see how you could call those bland, honestly.

If you don't find Halsin attractive, he's very bland and boring. Not Dave Jones' fault specifically, more the character writing which you can't make interesting no matter how much effort you put into it.

People just have different tastes. I get horny every time I see Karl Urban in The Boys, doesn't mean he deserves an Emmy.

Agreed, she also voices Gale's tressym Tara and does a wonderful job there. I generally wish there was something like a ensemble prize. They all did an amazing job, just some roles are more inviting to receive recognition and applause than others.

Would you still love his performance and his character, if he were a gnome or a halfling or is his 'personality' his buff body?

And what you describe, have most of the other characters and more. Halsin is one note in act 1 and 2 and a pervert in act 3. Of all the great performances, they choose this?
But as I said, I'm pretty sure, that the Raphael actor will get his deserved award.

And yes, Auntie should have gotten a nomination, she is just simply the best.

Please don't make sweeping assumptions like this. I'm asexual. Plenty of Halsin fans love him for reasons which have nothing to do with sexual attraction.

But be honest, most of them - and of the Astarion fan crowd, love him, because he is a pretty elf. What I want to say with this is: if he weren't pretty, no one would care. Dave would still be a decent VA, but he would never have gotten that recognition. No one outside the EA player were talking about Halsin before the infamous bear sex scene in the PfH - and no one would have looked at him twice, if he were a halfling, dwarf, dragonborn or halforc.
Look at what most Halsin threads are about: Sex, sex and more sex.
I know, that you are different and I appreciate it, but the sad truth is, he is mostly a sex symbol (for most fans) or an annoyance (for people like me, who got the creepy banter), not a deep character for most people.
