About saving the Tieflings. You also get to save Wulbren there and he asks you to get some tools so he can knock out the wall and he will also save the Tieflings. But opening the cells before they do that will result in everybody going to the double doors near the entrance of the prison area, that lead to the docks. There they will just stand and you'll get a message that the last boat has gone or something like that. So what you should do is give Wulbren his hammer and let him knock out the back wall and then he will go to knock out the back wall of the Tieflings after which they will go to the boat that is behind the knocked out wall. Just look through the bars of the gate to see when they arrive at the boat. Only then you should open the prison gate (door 2) and join them. For me that's the only way that quest works.
