I think there's a lot there for characters to have reasons to do it. Wyll has already proven he believes in sacrificing himself for the greater good. Jaheiera seems to believe the same way. Shar's Chosen Shadowheart says she doesn't know what's right and opts to blindly obey instead. Honestly I think Astarion is the hardest one to justify because he's all about being free but the others all have situations and motivations that could lead them to being a mindflayer.
