Explainer

  • Fantasy: Magic Painting through AI Object Recognition
  • Motivation: Creative and versatile gameplay (Draw your spell)
  • Inspiration: Spore (Maxis/EA), Creation Magic, Magic Painting (Black Clover), Kalain / Magic Paint / Animated Painting (DnD)
  • Gameplay: Draw. AI Try to recognize an entity of DnD. Ex: Object (Crate, Chest, Barrel, Gold), Living being (Ankheg, Mimic), Spell (Fireball), ...etc. When clicking on the icon of Magic Painting, a canvas appears. The player can draw anything. An AI tries to recognize the drawing from its knowledge of DnD. If there is a match, its name is displayed. The player can then save and/or cast the drawing at location (Action). The player can save the drawing in its gallery to recast it later. The gallery can be managed (reorder, copy, edit, delete drawing). The power of generated entities is relative to the character’s level. Only one generation active at a time, the previous one must be destroyed or dismissed to cast a new one. The drawing can represent multiple entities (Army of Skeletons), but the canvas has a
limited space. Bards get a +2 bonus on entities level.
  • Alternative: Draw through description (Generative AI). Easier and prettier icons, less dexterity. A description (prompt engineering) can create unique monsters, take size and coloration into account, ...etc. Ex: « A green beholder with 20 small eyes and 3 big eyes that casts confusion » or « A spell that casts 3 rays of oil and transforms the target into a chicken before exploding ». Playing this way can be very addictive, as much as the character editor.

Black Clover: Magic Painting

Quote
This magic attribute allows the user to manifest a palette and a paintbrush which they use to generate and manipulate paint. Illustrations made with this paint can come to life

Quote
This magic is extremely versatile because of the paint's abilities to create anything the user imagines and to transform into any element, allowing the user to counter most magic attributes.

Quote
A user's emotional state greatly affects their creativity and, by extension, their magic.

Quote
Enjoyment and happiness can fuel their imagination, while frustration and anger can stifle it.

DnD: Animated Painting

Quote
This magic painting depicts a beast, a dragon, or a monstrosity.

Quote
When a command word is spoken, the creature springs to life, leaving the canvas blank as it appears in the nearest unoccupied space next to the painting.

Quote
The creature understands your verbal commands, but can’t speak, cast spells, or use legendary actions even if its statistics would normally allow it to do so.

Quote
It regards you as its companion and obeys your commands as best as it can, taking its turn on your initiative.

Quote
After 1 hour has passed, or if the creature dies before then, it returns to the canvas.

Quote
Once this property has been used, it can’t be used again until 7 days have passed.

Quote
The GM chooses the depicted creature or determines it randomly.

Quote
The maximum challenge rating of the creature is determined by the painting’s rarity.

DnD: Magic Paint

Quote
The paint can be used to paint real objects into existence.

Quote
This will require (...) some sort of tool to paint with, such as a paintbrush.

Quote
You make a Performance check, with advantage if you are proficient in the item you are painting with, or if the thing you are trying to paint is in front of you. The result of the check determines the state of the painting created as shown below:

Quote
On a 5 or less, the object is painted, but it is so disproportional and messy that it collapses into nothing the moment it becomes real.

Quote
On a 6-10, the object becomes real, but is quite broken.

Quote
Anyone who looks at it will instantly know its a painting, and if it is a weapon, you have disadvantage on any attack rolls made with it.

Quote
On a 11-15, the object acts almost exactly like the real thing, and anyone who looks at it will have to succeed on a DC 15 Perception check to identify whether it is real.

Quote
However, the properties are less than perfect, with a painting of a candle staying stock still, or a painting of a river catching fire.

Quote
On a 16-20, the object will be completely lifelike, and will be virtually identical to its real counterpart.

Quote
No matter how realistic the painting was, it is still susceptible to liquid.

Quote
If any of these objects touch water, they will melt into a crumpled heap and be destroyed.
