Hello everyone,

like the title says: BG3 is constantly crashing on my girlfriends laptop, especially when playing in act 3.

DELL Precision 5570
RTX A1000 (which is RTX 3050 as 'professional')
Intel i7-12700H
RAM 32 GB Crucial (changed 2 weeks ago, but did not help avoid crashes; before it was DELL original / SK hynix)
SSD changed from Samsung 980 to SanDisk SSD now (both testet like 3 times, did not change crashing)

Tested on DX11: after some time graphics looking like a 1990's game on low settings, everywhere black spots, some textures gone missing (Withers naked and similar) even on low settings (everything set to low or high, does not matter), some minutes later often follows a full freeze (not even taskmanager can be opened)
Tested on Vulkan: no matter which settings (high or low) it is 9-11 FPS in Lower City Central

Yes, the RTX A1000 is choosen in the graphics menu, not the Iris iGPU

Tried changing drivers for nvidia, uninstall with DDU like 4-6 times, used like 3-4 different driver versions

Once we had like 3 days without crashing after DDU and reinstall, but immediately after Patch 5 crashes occured again.

Temperature is not the problem, graphics card hat 62° Celsius when it broke (which is quite low, because we capped fps to 30 for testing purpose).

RAM was changed, so I dont think this is a problem.

VRAM is occupied 2.4 of 4.0 GB, so enough VRAM is available (checked when in Lower City).

SSD was changed, both are in good condition (tested and verified); new SSD was formatted and BG3 reinstalled.

Windows Updates: no new updates, everything installed.

iGPU and dGPU drivers are the most recent ones, updated yesterday

DELL Support Software / Diagnostics does not find anything negative

Game files were verified like 10 times, game was reinstalled, we even reinstalled Steam

nVidia overlay stuff is inactiv, as well as the overlay which comes with intel gpu drivers

Chipset drivers etc. are all up-to-date, no "question marks" in device-manager of win11

We tested settings with DLSS off/on, AA off/on, shadows low/high, anything, maybe any combination

Deleted gamesaves, deleted %LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios, any mods (which was the case when we reinstalled BG3)

.NET could not be (re)installed because a newer version is already installed

Deactivated/bypassed larian launcher by %command%

Deactivated Razer Chroma BG3 Extension

Checked for weird "DELL Battery Save" or Performance stuff and deactivated that

Deactivated fast boot everywhere possible

Deactivated HAGS

(i surely forgot some stuff, I might add that to the list if necessary)

Other games worked fine and without crashes (Hogwarts Legacy and similar). Even the "professional" software, e. g. CAD Software (I dont really understand a lot of CAD and 3D Modeling so I just keep it simple as "CAD-Stuff") does work fine.

In Acts 1/2 crashes do not happen (or at least not very often so the game is playable), it is especially happening in Act 3.

We are both great fans of that game but now it ends with frustration. Is there anything I did not consider? The only thing which comes to my mind was reinstalling Windows. This is not an option, because she is using that device for her masters degree as well and this may inflict the work (data loss, some apps like AutoCAD or some other stuff might not work or get worse after that).

Anyone had the same problem? How did you solve it?

EDIT: we reinstalled everything again yesterday, I will edit this post, when crashes did occur - or did not. But bad graphics happened today after like 10 minutes again, so I guess...

The game ran fine for me through Act 3, up until I tried to enter Jannath's Estate for the "Free the Artist" quest, then the game kept crashing. The forum is full of similar threads about Act 3 and the game crashing at various points.
