I have only played through the original BG once, and that was when it released. I was so excited because I had been waiting for it for months. The AI was certainly not as terrible as everyone says, because I chose to play a Cleric and I had no clue how to play it. The AI kept my party alive and buffed well enough to finish the game. (I was 35 years old at the time.)
It was complete garbage and I don't know a single competent BG1 or. BG2 player that didn't play with the AI turned entirely off and micro-managing the entire party during the challenging fights.
The ones that didn't want to pause constantly and micro-manage at most did some challenge solo runs.
EDIT Anyway, it seems like the last replies are going a bit off-topic, but then againt the OP never came back, so there's that.
@Acemath: the turn-based combat is the highlight of the game and the reason I'm sticking around, on the other hand. If it was for other aspects of the game I would have stopped caring sometime ago.
