I believe Wyll's romance trigger is asking any sort of question about his dancing days. Not during the party itself, but rather the very first time he talks about his life after the Duke has been abducted.

Because even though I never flirted with him nor asked him if he wanted to dance at the party during my last playthrough, his scene still triggered in ACT 2. So I believe his trigger is asking him about his dancing days, though will have to test some more when I start a new playthrough.


Yeah, no. On my honor mode run I was extra mean to him at the party (which he laughed off), never ever brought up dancing with him and the first couple of rests in act 2 he wants to dance... While being at just high approval (basically, ignored him for the most of the game, was just nice and extra jokey mean at the party - used the special tiefling line about being jealous of his horns) and that man still somehow got it in his head that he wants to court my character, who's romancing Astarion (yes again, I have a problem with the vamp boy).

I don't think there is a way to avoid Wyll's dancing, I thought it might've been tied to approval (like Astarion and SH) but nope.
