Creating a new post with a more in depth list of issues I’ve come across so far, most occurred during act 2. Seemed to get more bugs and issues the further in the game I progressed, currently just left act 2 for act 3, and found I came across multiple bugs as I got closer the end of act 2.
(**Some Spoilers ahead**)
AUDIO:
- An issue from the start has been delayed Audio in main menu, no sounds load when you open the game, and there’s a 20 to 30 seconds delay before any audio plays in the menu.
- There has also been delayed audio inside and outside of combat, when my tav or companions or enemies are injured or affected, or taking an action, there is sometimes a few seconds delay from said action before the sound actually plays, sometimes the delay is longer. The actions themselves are also sometimes delayed on occasion too, when I take an action in combat but have to wait a few seconds or more before the character actually performs said action.
- Group banter on the road doesn’t always play audio, sometimes only one character has audio, or on occasion I miss parts of the banter as it loads the conversation before the game/area has finished loading so you miss part/half of the conversation. I noticed Shadowheart’s lines had no audio when you recruited her in shadowlands, but worked when you reloaded the game. Conversations/audio can sometimes start from companions while the game is still on a black loading screen.
LIP SYNC:
- I started encountering Lip sync bugs the further I progressed in Act 2, a couple times mouths didn’t move but audio still played, happened to certain lines from Balthazar, and Marcus. One time Wyll’s mouth only partially/barely moved in a full sentence during a conversation. In the middle of a dialogue with Karlach, one sentence was completely bugged, no audio or lip movement occurred at all, had to skip to next sentence, and reloading it later didn’t fix it.
- Noticed a large bug after entering the Mindflayer hive in Moonrise and rescued Zevlor, the audio bugged on him and everyone else I talked to afterwards. Their mouth started to move but no there was no audio, only lasted a few seconds before it restarted with audio, but the last part of the sentences were cut off, seemed to only happen in act 2 within the mindflayer hive. The conversation with US had no audio at all (after encountering aforementioned bug) accept for one word, but then mostly worked when I reloaded. Reloading the game later seemed to improve the audio/lip sync bug in the area, but still glitched sometimes.
CINEMATIC:
- I just recently noticed a couple odd delays where I trigger a couple conversation/cinematic scenes, (late act 2) but it takes quite a few seconds before it starts, so my character is just standing there in normal game view. A couple times there was also delays during a couple cinematic scenes where it gets stuck for a few moments before moving to the next sequence. Plus on occasion have had it go to a black screen momentarily after finishing/exciting a cinematic/conversation.
- Had an odd camera glitch that zoomed in really close on Gales’s face, or half his face so it was half cut off, during the conversation with Gale (romanced) about his orb down in mindflayer hive, during the scene with the 3 chosen.
- An uncommon bug I have had a couple times was when the response options show up before a dialogue sequence was finished, so it covered the entire sequence. Most notably it happened during Gale’s romance scene in Act 2, after he places the book down between us, the choice options show up immediately on the screen, covering the entire sequence that follows, and disrupts the entire scene. Reloading didn’t fix it. Also when Gale offers to show visions within the weave and you can say ‘Show me’, you have to click 2 to 5 times before it actually registers and continues.
TEXTURES:
- More frequently I’ve been experiencing textures not quite loading properly, or taking a while to load in fully (I have the game on quality mode). I have had different textures poping between lower and higher resolutions, so the textures keep blinking/flashing during cinematics. Seemed to occur more often the further I got in game (act 2). Also my tav’s beard texture is oddly patchy/transparent depending on the camera angle.
- The most annoying texture bug so far was during Gale’s romance scene (act 2), the body textures, well the normal maps, don’t load at all, so the spirit bodies are low quality and aren’t as rounded/smooth, basically just the raw base model. So they lack any texture, detail, or definition, whereas the head models load the texture/normals properly, showing the details, therefore you can very clearly see the obvious neck seam between the head and body models. No body details are visible at all, no skin texture or muscle definition, my teifling’s body textures/markings aren’t visible, not even Gale’s scar is visible (until it glows), and when it zooms in on hands there’s no definition, or nails or anything. It ruins the scene as the smooth blocky body models look odd and the neck seams very clearly stand out, especially when the camera zooms in close. Reloading the game didn’t seem to make a difference either unfortunately, so I really hope they fix this soon, (as well as the text overlay bug from the sequence just prior). I hope I’m not the only one who has this odd bug with the body textures/normals. (Also I’m assuming the silence/lack of audio during said scene (besides Gale’s voiceover) is intentional? I figured it was tbh, but just thought I’d double check?)
Bugs in general seemed to have become more prevalent unfortunately. I know the Xbox version probably has the most bugs out of all version, as it is the most recent release, and I know they’ve been focusing on the save issues, but still I keep my fingers crossed Laurianne’s will start addressing the texture and audio bugs soon. I also wish the game ran on a higher resolution, but I don’t know if that will realistically even be possible at the moment, or at all.
Also have had a very unsettling bug where the face model and texture of 3 particular npc’s would flash between normal and a very low poly jagged face with blurred out texture and no eyes or features, and had a random section of their face or mouth stretch across the screen in a long strip. Sometimes it was mainly just the stretched face polys. (Npc’s in question are; the Haper (act 2) that stops you from walking outside Last Light if you don’t have a blessing, the guard (act 3) who stops you from entering the bridge from Rivington, and the blacksmith trader ironhand gnome in the cave (act 3)).
SUGGESTIONS:
- When you meet Tara (act 3) the dialogue with Gale is surprisingly short, I expected her to ask how/where he’s been, or to ask who the person travelling with Gale is, or just talk more in general. It’s a shame there isn’t a little more dialogue considering how important they are to one another. Also would be great if tav could have an option to say something nice (or anything) to Tara as well.
- When Wyll has to decide what to do about his pact and his father (act 3), it would be good if there was an option to ask what he wants/thinks, as it seems odd/weird to decide for him, since it’s his soul and father after all.
- I think it would be nice to possibly have an option to be able to ask for/give a hug to a romanced companion. I believe the animation exists, so it would be possible to add it maybe.
- A small thing that was tugging my brain was the wording for asking for a kiss from Gale, it seems a little forceful, I thought it would be more along the lines of; ‘May I have a kiss’, (I could be over thinking it though) or also have an 2nd option like ‘may I kiss you’, so there’s a different option and sequence/animation maybe.
- But in any case it would be interesting to have some more general conversational options with romanced companions, or also be able to say nice things to them, or compliment them, besides always asking questions, so there’s more give and take, and less one sided. Or general/basic conversational options for companions overall. I realise they probably won’t add any more conversation options for companions, or be able to share more info about your tav in conversations, but I can wish.
- PLEASE ADD MORE CONTENT FOR GALE, he seems to have less general/overall content than other companions, and less/shorter romance(s). Gale is one of the main reasons I play the game, and I am disheartened and disappointed to see he doesn’t have as much interaction/content etc as I thought, and seemingly less love and care than other companions like Astarion. I’m not saying ‘just add sex’, I mean more content overall, with meaning, and while yes more could be added to his small romance scene in act 3, any added content overall would need to have purpose/reason, and have meaning/depth.
