I'm so frustrated. Does anyone know what the cause is and if there's a fix? Has Larian said anything about it?
I started to occasionally get this error toward the end of Act 3. I would delete some old saves and try again, which seemed to work... for a while. Now it doesn't, and I can't save at all.
Since there's no way I'm going to make it to the end of the campaign without encountering a crash or a bug, this kills my campaign - and probably kills BG3 for me unless it's fixed. I have hundreds of hours in this game but I haven't been able to complete a single campaign due to major, game-breaking bugs: first the patch 4 lag bug, and now this.
As much as I've enjoyed the hours that I've played, I have no desire to start another new campaign I might not be able to finish. I canceled my Netflix subscription for a reason: I like to see a story through its conclusion!

There’s a Reddit post that someone had finally got a response from them, saying they are aware of the issue and it will be fixed in an upcoming hot fix, posted today.
Fingers crossed it’s soon because there’s posts on here dating back to March for the same reason. I was really looking forward to playing during my time off for the season but it’s completely bricked unless they fix this.

Many instances of this issue should have been resolved with the latest Hotfix 15. Nevertheless, the team is aware there are still some reports about it and continue to work on this issue.

Same here. Just 3 quests to finish the game and this happened. I have encountered bugs in other games, but none had prevent me from finish the game. I stop playing bg3, and I'm hoping for a solution.

yeah have something like that at xbox, error 504, dont allow me to save at all, the only good thing about it, it was only happening at one battle at act 3, other places and runs was fine.

I have the same issue and none of the popular fixes work. This is a game-breaking bug and BG3 is now unplayable. I'll check back in a few weeks, but off to working pastures for the time being...

Oh, so nice! Another amazing bug that will trash our hours of gaming.. didn't had jet, but for sure I'll enjoy that soon (I'm on act 3 too). I'm onestly tired, and just want some answer from the creators. And If you don't have solution, start to refund people! It's not right this behaviour

Hotfix 16 out, still not fixed. Hope 2 weeks or a little bit more and it will be fixed Lots of us unabel to play since early december.

As of today, this is still a game-breaking bug that hasn't been resolved. It seems that Larian has no interest in doing so. One of their representatives declared it "resolved" about a month ago in this thread. Yet when I loaded the game two days ago, I was able to save it. But the game crashes in about 10-15 minutes, and my PS5 notifies me of this error. The new "patch" did absolutely nothing, so I believe we're never getting a resolution. I don't particularly appreciate that I praised this game, praised Larian, and recommended it to others. The best solution is to ask for a refund for this broken mess. We're going to be waiting months, if not forever for a solution. If you google this particular issue, it seems to be a constant since September 2023. I have yet to find a post where someone (an actual player on the PS5) proclaims this as resolved or is working. This is being overlooked, swept under the rug, and overshadowed by all the praise and accolades that Larian is getting. It's incredibly disappointing and infuriating that this will never be fixed, but every patch is adding cosmetic or minor fixes. I can't finish the game. It makes me suspicious that the "solution" is going to be a less-than-desirable or ugly one. "Just restart the game" or "Start from another save 10-100 hours before the corrupted save" are not viable solutions.

I received the same response as well, so you know that they're not looking this, they're not acknowledging it, and they're too busy basking in the accolades and kudos they're receiving for this game. Larian does not care, they're this media darling at the moment and the minority of us who are experiencing a bug that is breaking and undoing people's saves is running rampant. It is inexcusable and I will continue to make noise about this, until they silence me on their social media platforms which is more than likely than them fixing this broken game. Hotfix 15 has not resolved it for me. I have no save files left on the PS5 (there is a small set, maybe, in a multiplayer game with my spouse.)
Some relevant numbers: Console storage: 667.2GB FREE space: 405.6 GB Games & Apps: 234.5 GB. (Balder's Gate 3: 119.0 GB) Saved Data: 160GB The ONE remaining saved BG3 file is only 713.1 MB. This file is inaccessible to me because I haven't subscribed to PS's subscription-only cloud backup service. (For which, I have to be honest, this is feeling like a manufactured error to drive players to subscribe.) Even if I payed PS the fee to move that file to their cloud, I've found no description of how to get BG3 on PS5 to recognize and load it. Not that, right now, I would trust the game and console to do that seamlessly anyway.
What it did, originally, is throw out the Error 544 (Unable to save), and then, in the files listed was a brand new nameless campaign directory. This would contain my most recent saved file from my character's directory (as in, that newest save file would stop being listed under the character's directory and would now belong - in a grayed-out inaccessible state - in a new nameless campaign directory. If I attempted to save again into my character's directory, it would move the new top file from the character's directory into that nameless campaign's directory.)
Rebooted PS5. No joy. Tried leaving it powered off overnight. No joy. I tried cutting auto saves and quick saves to 3, then 2. No joy. Turned off cross-saves. No joy. (Deep sorrow, in fact, because now I don't have any Larian cloud saves for that campaign, afaict). Briefly, for about three saves, I was able to complete a save after deleting two or three prior save files.
As of right now, the game is literally unsaveable. As in, today I began a brand new campaign, thinking this was a problem only in Act 3 when the save files got to be too large.
Nope. Literally at the very first save point in the Prologue, Error 544 - unable to save. You can't tell me this is some kind of memory issue. There's plenty of memory available on my PS5. This didn't happen in late December, when I was completing my first playthrough.

Larian, please, please figure this out!

Hello guys,
This no help but as you can see from my name im pretty much into this bug. The best we can do is to basicly bully them in every platform that they have. Swen Vincke already answered a, few tweets regarding this issue. But most of us who is affected by this lost hope. Larian is a good studio but this is a, disgrace.
Please help me keep this thread up, and hope the provide informations.

Adding my voice to the chorus here. I encountered the bug a few days ago and it likely corrupted my honour mode save file with only 10ish hours before I got my gold dice. I’m as frustrated as everyone here, but I also don’t doubt Larian is aware and working to fix it. That being said, for any Larian employees reading through these forums, you need to acknowledge and address this. A fix may take a while, it may not, but the worst thing you can do is ignore the fact that this is bricking your entire game for a minority of your player base. That is a HUGE deal, and refusing to respond to support tickets and being silent about it is going to get you the worst possible backlash for it. Software development is hard, explaining what’s going on will likely leave you with still frustrated but more sympathetic users on this side of the bug.
