Hm yeah, the new version sounds okay for a while but then it makes the scene sound too normal/pedestrian, like you’re just walking around the city? I do think I like the old version better. The old version does feel a little empty though. I think maybe what would be best is if they had a little bit of the “I want to live” theme and then let it fade out so that it doesn’t keep playing and take away from the hollowness of that moment.

Yep. The music does undermine the gravitas of the scene. It's not a major issue on its own, but there are just too many similarly awkward cutscenes in the game.

I don’t know how relevant this info is, but today I watched this scene on YT in the playthrough as Astarion origin, and there, too, if not ascend, this music is played. The problem is that the video was from September 4th. It turns out that music in origin PT has always been like this and perhaps this is a bug of the patch, that the wrong music is playing in the non-origin scene, or did Larian decide to equalize the scenes? does anyone know?

I didn’t plan to play Origin for him in the near future, I was just curious. Now I can’t imagine how it’s possible to go through it practically without Neil’s wonderful voice(((

Was a bit sad that it wasn't changed back in patch 7 - the mixing is better but it's too happy, too jarring vs the simple violin strings. It also covers Neil's performance. I'm hoping to find or figure out how to make a mod to remove it. The track was introduced in patch 5, didn't play before then

Yes, I vote to please bring the old music back. People are so unhappy that they even made a mod to bring the old music back.

I must disagree - for me this change of music is perfect. It shows the end of torment and fear, goes from scary to hopeful and in my opinion resonates very well with this final moment of Astarion's storyline smile

Coming back to this thread after a few months, now- I've found it that in Early access and other patches I've been originally really opposed to certain changes but then grown used to them.

Not the case for this one. I still think it's abysmally bad, focuses on the wrong things that originally made the scene amazing and tugged on your heartstrings (well, not only doesn't it focus on it, but actively detracts from it and cheapens the whole thing), and beats you over the head with something that I think most are able to figure out about what it means for him in the long run, no distracting happy music in an moment of emotional unloading needed. I'm sorry if it's harsh, but I feel very strongly about it. It really becomes hard to feel the moment and focus with the new music.

I'm not going to say the scene is unwatchable now or anything, but it's definitely a much inferior experience than it used to be. I still can't wrap my head around an unnecessary change that is worse than the previous one, especially for a scene that was critically acclaimed by basically everyone and arguably helped get awards.
Imagine changing, say, Raphael's Final Act to a version where Raphael sounds cartoonishly evil instead so it's clear that um... he's evil, I guess, but the result is it just sounds worse altogether and distracts you from the moment. That's this change to me.

As others have said, since it's not the actual final moment of his quest, and that honor goes to the morning after, where he wraps a bow around it, and is actually sounding pretty (cartoonishly so IMO) hopeful himself- that's where the music would suit the moment much better.
