Hello

Even with cross-save activated, I lost my saves, how do I recover them on Xbox?

the save is not lost, 1-2 hours, it is wiped, like never happanned. How is this possible in 2024? No reply on tickets opened, this is horrible customer service...

I have more than 200 in the game. Once 22 hour, than 5 now everything since 14th of december is wiped off clean....

but it does not work, i cant even check on pc whether my xbox saves are exsist

Maybe you should try disconnecting your Larian account from your Xbox (from the Larian website). Then you log back in on your Xbox. Maybe it will work? (apologies for my writing but I don't speak English, I hope it will be understandable

How would this be possible if the game won't let me in?

I still have my saved data from my save file so the game just crashes constantly at the start up screen.

So this game is currently unplayable.

I have used every method they claim protects your saves. Still lose every save.

Their support team refuses to even acknowledge that this is a problem. They have done zero work to resolve it.

This should be illegal. Especially since they knew this was an issue prior to launch and lied about it.

I hope everyone at this studio ends up homeless and selling their children for food.

If you had cross-saving enabled, then to initialize loading saves from the cloud you need to do the following: 1. On the game icon, click “Manage games and add-ons” and delete and clear everything that is there. 2. Restart xbox through the menu "General - Power - Restart". 3. Restart the game and enable cross-platform saving again. 4. Start creating a new character and go to the menu, you will see a message in red text that synchronization is in progress. All you have to do is wait for the last save to load from the cloud.

The sequence of actions is described in great detail and correctly. In my case, however, I still had to reset the console to its factory state in order for the game to start at all. I restored the saves in just this way. However, the next day, all my saves were deleted again, and this time, apparently, even from the Larian cloud. Since they are no longer downloaded to the console after synchronization. My recommendation is not to try to start playing until the game is out of beta. This terrible experience is not worth it.

My 2c, in case it helps someone:

First playthrough. No save problems so far. Enabled cross-saves as suggested by Larian. Five last games are synchronized (white icon).

After a save, 35h in, we saw that only one game, the latest one, was synchronized (white icon). The other games were not. This was the first time it happened.

Without quitting, we did the following:

- Deleted all old games, keep the newest 6 or 7 (we had around 15 in total).
- Disable cross saves. Press B to go back to the main menu (this seems to be needed for the option change to register, although I can't be sure). Wait a couple of seconds.
- Confirm (via Load menu) that the saves are no longer synchronized (no white icons).
- Re-enable cross saves.
- Wait for the sync to finish.
- Confirm 5 saves are OK again (white icons).

I don't know if something worse will happen in the future but the above experience reassured us a bit. Until a proper fix is issued, I would suggest checking sync status after every save.

EDIT: Happened twice already. Above solution worked again to keep the games safe (although I've haven't yet seen any games simply vanish from the list, I only see them get progressively unsynced).

My synced saves keep decreasing by one every time I save, until only the last one is left. So I toggle the cross save option off and on to resync everything.

Complementing my last post. Only after it I discovered all these countermeasures. Larian acted in bad faith. If you really cared about players, you would put a warning about how to avoid it on the game's start screen. You lie when you say you are worried with the players. Disgust.

I lost all saves maybe about 5 times, maybe even more times. In fact, only one things keep me is cross-save. It doesn't renew last 5 saves, but only 2. However it helped. It doesnt mean this isn't big issue, it is big issue.

Just curious: have you followed the steps above to keep your games in sync with the Larian servers? And couldn't you restore them from the servers? I'm trying to understand if their workaround works or not.

I just learned about the steps after I lost the save game. Thats my critict, if Larian really cared about the players, they would insert a warning about the bug when the game start.

"An Xbox System Update will be rolling out from today (16/01/2024) to address the Save Game issue on Baldur's Gate 3. You can manually update your console via the Settings or it will roll out to your console within the next week."

Thanks. I presume most folks who read this thread are already aware of this update. I applied it as soon as it came out yesterday, still waiting to see how it fares. Can you provide any information as to the technical reasons for the bug? Is it related to the infinite save file size issue? The Release Notes from Microsoft don't mention anything even remotely on topic.

Also, am I the only one regularly getting "504 Gateway Timeout" errors when trying to post (or even read) in this forum?

I lost a lot of time waiting for game that works as other games on Xbox. Over a month from release and based on change logs it looks like problem is not solved yet. They released buggy game to steal our money before Christmas.
No I am waiting for refund.

state to 24/01/2024 - after my xbox automatically updated to last system version I lost my saves for the FIRST TIME (ofc they fix an issue I see it clear lol). It's sad that you weren't able to check this update by yourself in Larian, I think microsoft did a bad issues job((( I played since 4 or 5 Jan, and have no problems with game or saves, except some crushes, but after update it happened immediately. When I receive an in-game message about cross-savings I turned it on just for case and it saved my 80hour-campain, but now I am so scared to play I literally stunned.

I just fall in to this game, spending all my free time in here which I don't have so many...BG3 literally cured my years of gaming impotence and I feel the joy of gaming again like I did years ago. so I was so upset about it((

I really hope this issue is what you at Larian are working on now and you haven't forgotten about xbox players because there is no worse bug in a game than not being able to play it.

I also regularly see 504 gateway problem, so maybe some hosting issues...
