Indeed for me Companion selection is a race to the bottom, for the least irritating individual. Bunch of messed up edgelords (and ladies). For me Karlach is most palatable. Good point about Hulking Halsin - I find "Strong Body Type" for Elves ALMOST as bad as the awful square jaws of male Elves. I can't bring myself to play a male elf ...
As I keep restarting I cannot comment on Jaheira (who should be retired) or Minsc (whose only redeeming feature was Boo).
