The waking dream turns you into a thrall but it doesn't 'shatter' you in the sense that you are incapable of doing things like operating cannons or working to put out fires - you just believe you are putting out a barn fire, not a nautaloid fire. It stands to reason that the deeper one dives into the fantasy the greater control the absolute had.
