Specifically, this "hate kiss" in that specific scene:


This isn't even a proper kiss animation, it's some peck on the lips. One of the laziest animations I've seen.

New animations are probably coming in the next 7 days, these are just rushed placeholders ^^

Seeing how only specific characters are getting fixed in the patches, I wouldn't be surprised if Shadowheart was excluded from those fixes. I'm honestly baffled how they allowed for placeholder animations for the full release of the game.


And honestly, this specific dialogue line is only for a Selunite, kiss probably too, so again, I wouldn't be surprise if Larian isn't even aware of the issue here.

You’re getting a kiss??? Mine just cuts off with no animation.

Edit: oh, I see it’s from a YouTube video from several months ago. Well, the issue is more dire now. Because after patch 4 no kiss animation plays at all.

All the special smooches might be at the moment. The last kiss before the final battle with Gale didn't work for me either recently.

As for the general topic, they said they'd release new kisses for everyone, the first batch was added late last year.

Yeah, it's not my video, I just found it as an example of how awful that kiss is for Selunite playthrought. If I remember correctly, that kiss is only available for Selune cleric, so... that's why I'm afraid Larian isn't even aware of the issue of how bad that animation is or that now it's broken.


I checked my old save file from SH romance and her kiss animation at the camp is still as bad as the one in the video. Big yikes.

Astarion, Karlach, Halsin and Wyll were added last year. Shadowheart, Lae'zel, Gale and Minthara still have their original little pecks. As @Crimsomrider mentioned, with Valentine's Day fast approaching this might change soon.

Edit: If you think that they aren't aware of a bug, you can write a ticket about it.

Yes, her kiss animation looks like that everywhere, well, except when it doesn’t play at all. I don’t think it’s that terrible, I think it’s cute. But I’m confident that we’ll be getting a new kiss animation soon since they’ve been teasing that for months, ever since patch 4 came out really. But I’m not as confident that they are aware of the issue that the cleric of Selune kiss doesn’t play. I reported it as a bug and they told me that it was because of mods, but I don’t use mods.

Did you reply that you don't use mods? Personally I can't write a new ticket, because I haven't started new Selunite playthrough yet, so I can't even give them a save file as a proof.

I replied to their message that I don’t use mods, yes. I hope that they take it seriously. The animation broke with patch 4 when they added new kisses for some of the characters. I think they must’ve forgotten that there was a kiss in that scene, messed up the code for her default kiss, then didn’t replace it there. Because her default kiss has changed a little bit after patch 4. Not in a good way however.

They really don't care much for female romances here it seems. Karlach's got something because the community was vocal about it, that's it.

No, I think that the Shadowheart and Lae’zel romances are really well done. Can’t speak to Karlach because I haven’t gotten to her act 3 stuff. With Shadowheart they just need to fine-tune some of the details. (And I… have probably way too much to say about that.)

I beg to differ. Her normal lines and romance lines are basically the same, they almost don't have any differences. I romanced her twice, once as a Selunite and even then it was underwhelming.

Just going to have to agree to disagree about that. But yeah I do hope they fix her kiss soon.

Someone on reddit confirmed that this kiss is still broken.

YESSSS I just tested it myself and it is still broken! It’s driving me crazy! We got an entire kiss patch and they didn’t fix this, one of the cutest kisses in the whole game? Help Larian, send a hotfix!

Edit: And just to 100% clarify the kiss I’m talking about, I mean the special kiss that a cleric of Selune gets with Shadowheart in Grymforge If you give her the idol of Shar. Where you say, “just take the gift and kiss me like you hate me.” There’s no animation!

And just to clarify, this is absolutely not because of mods, contrary to the response I received from support.

I'll be starting a new playthrough as Selunite tomorrow, but I'll be using mods, so I can't really provide them my save file as a proof that the kiss is broken >.>

I’m not starting a new playthrough until the kiss is fixed (along with the bugged Mother Superior scene in the culmination of her quest), to be honest. I finished the game about a week ago, for the first
time, so it’s good for me to take a break anyway. And having a kiss there is just too good.

It’s still an amazing experience, and I hope you enjoy your playthrough! I loved my playthrough as a resisting Durge, cleric of Selune, witty bard character, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It was so good. Loved the roleplay.
