I mean without getting a natural 20.

I got an 87 and 95 but can't beat that. Do you get the same result as a natural 20 or do you get something special?

afaik if you get a natural 20 it still fails but it does damage the brain slightly during the final fight. It's not really worth save scumming for as the second half of the fight against the brain isn't that challenging.

…. How are you getting a 95 on that roll? I can barely get 30

No Illithid powers ever. Not to free shadowheart, not to free zevlor nor Mizorra. No authority, no Omelleum potion, no purifier, no detect thoughts, decline to see things people want to project into my mind via tadpole and don't allow others to read my mind.

Don't know which of those were needed and which weren't but it's what I did on that run. Two dice rolled, one was covered in an inky blot like the darkness spell. I got a 95 on the second roll and then the third was a 30 but only one dice rolled and the numbers were white instead of red.

I'd really like to know what happened but I lack data mining skills.

Off topic 1 - why can I use strength on Mizorra's pod but not Zevlors?

Off topic 2 this makes the Shadowheart romance more like I remember her in EA: perpetually annoyed by Tav's very existence.

Also shoots up Lae'zel's approval to near 100 in just a few days.

Hey @Salo? Is there any chance the devs will tell us what we need to do get that 99 roll?

I know in DoS2 the 'purity' requirement to get into the endgame were insanely difficult and I expect this is the same.

On my honor run I thought I did everything the same as I did on my previous 95 roll run but I didn't get the special dice this time and only rolled a 30. Are the high numbers just disabled on honor?

Only thing I can think of that I might have done incorrectly is that there is one dialogue with Shadowheart were you have no choice but use the tadpole to see her early memories. Does this count as a tadpole use? Do you just need to have a bad relationship with Shadowheart?

The other thing I wonder is do the restoration fountains in the house of hope have the same tag as the illithid pods? Did I screw up by avoiding pods but using fountains?

I genuinely don't think the 99 roll was meant to be passed

Early on the devs said it would be available to people who avoided tadpoles, there are special dice for it soo . . . .

The DoS2 purity test was:

- no stealing

- no killing.

- no swearing to God King

- no source vampirism

Completing a DoS2 run without killing is . . . difficult.

Fortunately you could have other people in your party kill things.

Well, if you are determined to pass a DC=99 check, you may get about 40% chance to succeed, provided that you have an advantage and a total of 4 inspiration points ready to spend.

Additionally, the game has legit ways to allow certain character builds to positively influence one or more dice rolls of their choosing per long rest.

With everything legit combined, you may get, roughly speaking, a ~50% chance (or even better???) to pass a DC 99 check.

bumping this after half a year, because i'm really really REALLY curious, if anyone managed to replicate this and perhaps even passed the roll?
