I purchased BG3 on PS5 beginning of October 2023.
I've finished 4 playthroughs (1 Balanced Tav, 1 Balanced Durge, 1 Origin Astarion on Tactician, 1 Tav on Honour Mode).
Each playthrough took me about 100-150 hours.
- Between October and Early November, between Patch 3-4, I had no lag or crashes.
- Early November, Patch 4 release, I had SIGNIFICANT lag and Act 3 was to the point all the NPCs would stop moving for 20 seconds, companions would not follow, and I could not do basic actions like climb or jump. I stopped playing for 2-3 weeks.
- Late November/December, Larian fixed Patch 4, I had no crashes or lag, all the way until the beginning of February.
I stopped playing right before Patch 6, because once I finished Honour Mode, my desire to play declined significantly. I'm mostly just waiting for the camera mode now xD If this forum is any indicator, it appears many users are experiencing issues with Patch 6, particularly with the shops and pickpocketing. If you are someone who loots everything (e.g. even the rags, bowls, incense, and all items worth 1 gold) and have 300-400 hour playthroughs on one save, you'll probably run into more crashes, bugs and glitches. For me, my playthroughs averaged between 100-150hrs each, and they loaded without issue. I did not experience any lag or crashes, aside from beginning of November Patch 4.
If you are asking whether this game is playable and worth it on PS5, I finished four playthroughs in 4 months. This is easily the best game I have ever played. For me personally, Larian has become a developer I trust will fix things, and I will continue to support their works/games. If you do not want to deal with the lag, bugs, glitches, and potential crashes, I would say wait until they've patched things up. I would take a look over this forum and see what issues other users have reported and see if they are applicable to you.
If you choose to try the game, I would highly recommend signing up for a Larian Account, as they allow you to have 10 free cloud saves on their server. If you run into a bug or a crash that makes your game unplayable, having the Larian back-up really helps. You can not only download your game back via cross-save, but you can also give them the save file prior to whatever issue you run into.
Overall, I do not regret purchasing this game even with the ups and downs. I absolutely loved the characters and the combat, and you can tell a lot of love and passion went into this game.
