I swear I dont know WHO thought 27 points was a good idea, or that having a MAX total stat amount was either. But just using 3D6 for character creation using DnD rules. I can do better than what this game offers for starting stats. What moronic boob did this? BG1 and 2 didn't have this lame setup. Why choose the WORST set of rules for character creation DnD has?

Three questions in response to your complaining about something you don't seem to understand at all:

1) What "DbD rules" (in your own words) are you talking about?

2) Do you really know how BG1 and BG2 create initial stats, which more often than not "forced" legit players to roll for initial stats for 2+ hours?

3) Do you know the fact that initial stats in BG3 function very differently compared to them in BG1/2?

pLAYED AND REPLAYED both. iF YOU SPENT 2 HOURS DOING, YOU WERE TRYING FOR ALL STATS 16+, at most i spent 20m, not hours. And the some total is/was FAR creater than the BS max 27 point they are using for this. And bite me for the typo.

There fixed it just for you

Yeah. I love the point buy that barely covers standard array. Oh, and you do not get the option to raise your stats at Levels, 4, 8. 12 16 and 20. you only get feats. I like having feats, but they need to change the stats so we can roll random or increase the point buy. and the racial stat bonuses are complete shit.

5E's 27 point buy is customised version of default array, which harkens back to 3E where WotC did a lot of math to determine most common results from the popular 'roll 4d6, drop the lowest' method. Which in turn was the default system used in 2E, ie. the basis of BG1&2.

Put another way; roll 4d6 drop lowest = default array = 27 point buy.

This all said, 3E recognised lower and higher point buys for different campaign styles. So yes, if you reroll like crazy, you need to offer say 35 point buy to be comparable.

However 5E streamlined and simplified wherever it could. BG3 went even further and simply dropped the rolling method, I'm guessing because of multiplayer feedback, some players can't handle disparity.

If players couldn''t handle the gaps, maybe they shouldn't have settled when they got 1 stat they wanted. As I said , i never spent more than 20m creating characters in BG1&2 with the random roll system.
