Hello!

Like the title says, Shadowheart disappeared from my game! I am playing on PS5 and am currently in Act 2. Her disappearance could be a result of my story decisions in the game (or she could just be dead) but it feels like a bug since a lot of things don't quite add up.

After looking through my saves, the last time I could find her anywhere was just before I entered Ketheric Thorm's throne room in Moonrise Towers, where she was waiting in camp. I went back afterwards and made a new save there so I wouldn't accidentally delete it or anything. She wasn't in my party, but I never had any sort of interaction with her in camp that would suggest she was going to leave. She just vanished at some point! It must have been some time after entering Moonrise, because by my next save (just before fighting Kith'rak Therezzyn in Creche Y'llek), she was no longer in camp. I didn't realize this until after completing Creche Y'llek. I kept playing afterwards, figuring she'd just sort of come back on her own, but after 15 hours she still hasn't. I feel a bit silly for continuing to play instead of just redoing Creche Y'llek and making sure she was still around, but I was just having so much fun!

Anyways, she still isn't here. I've included a few screenshots in case they're helpful.

Shadowheart is never in her tent, or anywhere else in camp

Shadowheart's quest, Daughter of Darkness still appears in the Quests menu in the Journal as if everything is normal

Shadowheart still appears in the Inspiration menu in the Journal

(not entirely sure how to embed images yet, sorry)

She's nowhere to be found in any camp (not at her tent or anywhere else) and I haven't found her in any area of the world. However, she still shows up in the Inspiration menu and her quest hasn't failed or anything, so I figure she's still around in the game somewhere. I'm not sure where she is, but I doubt that she's dead. I don't have the option to resurrect her when speaking to Withers, and she was never in my party after the save at Moonrise Towers, so she wouldn't have been around for any battles to die in. If Shadowheart isn't dead, my other theory would be that she got mad that I showed Vlaakith the artefact during Lae'zel's quest and maybe just left without any dialogue since she wasn't in my party. However, like I said before, she was gone before I even got to Vlaakith in Creche Y'llek.

I think I've done just about everything there is left to do in Act 2 without using the crystal in the Grand Mausoleum to enter the Gauntlet of Shar, which I know is important for Shadowheart's quest. I entered it once (before reloading to a previous save) and it updated Shadowheart's questline and gave my companions some dialogue, but unsurprisingly didn't make Shadowheart reappear out of thin air. Could progressing through the Gauntlet of Shar trigger something in her quest that could make her come back, or would she have to be in my party in the first place? That's the last idea I have besides reloading my save.

Like I said before, I am playing on PS5. I wouldn't be surprised if this has a remarkably simple fix that I didn't think of. Otherwise, I understand if there is no fix and I just have to either reload my save and replay a lot of the game or continue my playthrough Shadowheart-less. Any help is appreciated, thank you so much!

This is weird she left without any dialogue at all?

Have you got to the final battle with Ketheric yet?

This seems to be a bug. When a companion leaves the party because of story choices they take their tent with them.

I'm on PS5. I normally have Shadowheart in my party, so I have never had her disappear/go invisible.
I have seen other users report she will leave your party if:
You complete the Gauntlet of Shar/Nightsong mission without her.
I have also seen a player report she has gone invisible, if she did not follow your party when:
Boarding the boat to go from Underdark to Grymforge

To check if she is still in your party:
[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]
Go to Camp (R2, Down)
Then go to your inventory (R2, Up)
Then press L2, this will show you all current party members you have recruited, including inactive party members.
Check and see if her portrait still appears on the list.

Yep! No dialogue or anything. Another reply mentioned that characters don't leave for story reasons without taking their tent though, so something's definitely up. Also, no, I have not done the final battle with Ketheric yet.

I forgot to mention this!! Even when in camp, she does NOT show up in that little L2 menu in the inventory/character sheet.

Also for what it's worth, I have not
started the the Gauntlet of Shar/Nightsong mission yet,
and I
had no problems earlier in the game when I took the boat from the Underdark to Grymforge.

When you pressed L2, does it show a blank portrait slot-holder where she should be? Or is she just completely gone from your panel?

I checked BG3 Wiki, and another way players can lose companions is if she had Very Low approval of your character:
Quote
Value Approval Description
-49 – -40 Very Low Relationship is in danger. Character is likely to leave party if they disagree with another decision.
-39 – -20 Low Relationship is bad. Character may leave party if approval gets worse.
-19 – 20Neutral Relationship is neutral. Character has no strong feelings towards avatar.
21 – 40 Medium Relationship is fair. Character's trust in avatar is variable.
41 – 60 High Relationship is good. Character approves of avatar.
61 – 80 Very High Relationship is very good. Character is happy with and easily convinced by avatar.
81 – 100 Exceptional Relationship is exceptional. Character is thrilled with and very easily convinced by avatar.
Quote
Low Approval
If a companion's approval drops to -50 or lower, they will leave the party permanently, taking with them anything they had equipped. The contents of their inventory including story items will be returned to the player character in a backpack.

Companions will give two warnings (once at -25 and once at -40) before deciding to leave.
Check your inventory, and see if you have Shadowheart's backpack. If she returned your items to you, she has left your party.

There's no blank portrait frame-thing in the L2 panel, she's just totally gone from there.

I believe Shadowheart's approval was at least high? I'm also looking at the BG3 Wiki, and on her Approval page under Greetings it says:
Quote
Depending on their approval rating, Shadowheart may greet the player with:

...

Medium approval (20+) to Exceptional (80+)

...

After learning about Sharran worship:
"May the darkness protect you."
"Shar's blessing upon you."
"Lady of Sorrows guide us. Did you want something?"
I cut the irrelevant greetings from the quote, but she always greeted me with one of the Medium to Exceptional greetings where I knew about her worshipping Shar. Going back to my most recent save where she's still present, these are still the greetings she uses, and her approval is listed as High in the character sheet. I also never got a warning conversation from her before she disappeared.

As for Shadowheart's inventory, she wasn't carrying a backpack at the time but her items included her circlet, some Dark Justiciar Mail, and a Cloak of Cunning Brume, none of which ever showed up in my inventory or in the Traveller's Chest in camp.

I decided to gather everything I/we have figured out and submit a bug report to Larian via their website. Thank you Brandos, Veranis, and especially Lillith for your help! smile
