Persistent effects (Such as Moonbeam, Hunger of Hadar, Spike Growth etc) don't count as coming from your character and thus will not trigger any equipped items.
The logic is something like, you're creating the effect, and then the effect does the damage not you.

Persistent effects that are still attached to your character (Such as Spirit Guardians, Warding Bond etc) still count as coming from your character.
