I rather like Danton. He's not my favorite but he's still a good hireling, especially if your main isn't a druid but you want one for roleplaying flavor during the grove questline.
I have him on an early playthrough and just looked over his info.. I didn't find anything that was tied to/scaled with Charisma. If I'm missing something, let me know but the only racials I found were not based on an ability score: from the Tiefling Race - Darkvision and Hellish Resistance, and Mephistopheles Subrace - the Mage Hand cantrip.
His background as Folk Hero does fit best with WIS based classes such as his default Druid class but it doesn't really cause a drastic limitation on what he can be respecced to, since you can freely adjust ability scores on respec.
