Hey all, it's been a while.

I recently started paying a lot more attention to the vocal responses and i was wondering about other people's experiences. By vocal responses I mean the little voice lines that characters have when you do things like select them, tell them to go somewhere, attack something, or interact with something.

At first, i was noticing a difference in the responses between my durge characters vs other characters, even with the same voiceset there are a lot of responses that i assumed were durge-specific (getting vocal responses like ALL IS ASH AND MEAT). The durge lines have a different sound quality than the standard lines, so they are not too hard to pick out even if you ignore the content. This actually ties in to something i noticed about the changing sound quality of voicelines, how you can tell what lines are newer than others because of the slight but noticeable difference in audio, but that's a different conversation.

Except then i started noticing that a non-durge character gave me the "ASH AND MEAT" line, as well as one I had somehow never heard before, something about paving my path with corpses and building my castle with bones... After telling my little avatar to calm down, I wondered why this was happening.

At first i thought it was some kind of bug, i had reloaded to this character from a durge save, so maybe something got confused? wouldn't be the first time the game had accidentally not cleared data between reloads. But, then I thought that maybe these lines are actually related to the path you choose when you go through act 1. I've not yet payed a good durge playthrough yet (i'm working on it) where I don't slaughter the grove. And this character isn't a durge, but they did slaughter the grove.

What have been other people's experiences with this? was I mistaken in thinking that these lines were durge only, when they were instead choice-related? Also, what's your favourite edgelord line you've heard?

Hi there, yes this happened to me. I’d never heard the durge-y type lines until I started playing a durge character in earnest, which coincided with (I think) patch 6. Like you, I assumed it was a bug and reported it as such a few weeks back, but don’t think I’ve received anything but the automated response for that one yet.

If you free SH on the Nautiloid with a Barbarian, then suddenly there is also a difference in the sound of her voice muffled by the pod.

I had a male guardian's voiceline in Moonrise towers and my guardian is female. Up until that point, everything was fine. Hearing a male guardian's voice threw me off guard for a minute. I thought to myself "Wait, isn't my guardian a human female?" and I had to think about it for a second. Unless in that case, they simply didn't record a female voice for that line?

Sometimes I hear hirelings say DUrge lines, despite not having the default DUrge voice sets. Maybe they are supposed to talk that way? I don't know.

I can't comment on Tav speaking DUrge lines, as all my characters have been DUrges so far.

After a bit more playtime, I've settled on it being an issue with data not being cleared between reloads. Played the same non-durge character for a couple hours with a clean load and had no durge responses at all. Good to know, but it would have been interesting if your actions actually affected things like that.

In moonrise towers, did you have a masculine sounding guardian response line after finding the tentacle hole and sticking your hand in it? I had the same thing, threw me off because it should have been the feminine one.

Yes, that's exactly what happened! It was when I reached in the tentacle hole and the male guardian's voice spoke to me instead.
