Larian has made it clear that BG3 will have no expansions/DLCs. The game is basically done.
We will however get some extra evil endings and cinematics. Also very basic Mod support. And of course the obligatory "bug fixes" every months or so.
And...that is it? I was hopping for Larian to fix not just bugs but maybe improve the game's mid to last chapter? -Maybe improve the UI? -Improve the D&D experience (spells/mechanics and such) ? -Will there be an enhanced edition? -More OPTIONS in the menu to tailor the D&D rules and gameplay a bit, like Pathfinder, Solasta or the PoE series ? <------My biggest gripe. It does not take 6 months of dev, a full team of rocket scientists, and millions of dollars to ADD just a few options and sliders to the game options system (the most bare-bone thing in the game) It can even be super lazy, like an ON/OFF switch for stuff WE HAD IN EA like "Roll for stats".
Basically improving the current game (bug fixing isn't improving, its FIXING) would of been a no brainer but it seems like its turned into: "heres a few additional adds, some more bug fixes, and were done...".
What is everyone's thought on the future roadmap of this game? To me It seems to have quickly turned into a "Dead End".

It just reminded me of the bowl of goat's milk that old Winthrop used to put outside his door every evening for the dust demons. He said the dust demons could never resist goat's milk, and that they would always drink themselves into a stupor and then be too tired to enter his room..

For me its currently paved in fears that any given studio that might choose to pick up the torch might not be able to live up to the expectations, while I do feel like its way too early to give up like this it did also come with myriad of feelings that I no longer have to bother with. Which were from the other side of the coin, that lets say a DLC they were working on got released, whether that delved into a specific companion is anyones guess or whether it was more general direction where all companions have a say in, that if it had been focused on one single companion what if it would make fans of the game want to have one released to their favorite? Would be unrealistic to expect 12 DLC's, one for each companion. Depending on the capabilities of the modding support and knowing whats been said it won't provide, I could have imagined seeing fan made campaigns with their own fictional head cannons realised for others to enjoy, but I doubt the capabilities the modding support entails would allow anyone to do that. I saw four prominent and good potential expansions that we wil llikely never see get realized were as following, Menzoberranza prequel type of branching from early game, Vlaakith's temple that we could have had branched into from middle part of the game and the legendary dwarven tunnels below Cazadors temple that could have been a branch later parts of the game same as Avernus. To put all of those aside I would love if there was some illustrations and concept arts realised into a thick book of what was planned for the game but never made it in for any given design reason, I would love to get hands on such tid bits of documentation, if it were on sale alongside their merchandise.-edit Oh and almost forgot to mention the possibilities of visiting Icewind Dale region, it is a really big shame we likely won't be able to have our big party of companions explore the more colder regions of the realm together, imagine how epic that would have been or even a possible standaloie DLC where we get to have .... spoilers!! The Dark Urge pulling their cunning stunts into those colder regions of Canial, where we get to play and steal the crown of Karsus from the vaults of Mefistofeles homeground and have it end in a cliffhanger where he wound up betrayed by Orin the red later down that road.

Since Larian is obviously incredibly over this game and wants to walk away as soon as possible, I think the least they could do is release some good modding tools. That way our talented modding community could pick up the slack.
It's far from ideal, but it would be something.

I was hopping for Larian to fix not just bugs but maybe improve the game's mid to last chapter? It's a bit on the late side to be thinking about rewrites to improve later acts don't you think? Given the game has already been fully released for a while (And unlike some other titles, it was successful so no need to redesign anything) Probably not high on the priority list given the success the game has had. "If it isn't broken, don't fix it" comes to mind. -Improve the D&D experience (spells/mechanics and such) ? The DnD experience was compromized intentionally by Larian. Whom either weren't fans of the rules, felt that certain things were not workable with the game engine/mechanics, or they were things from outside the PHB so they weren't considered (Most of the stuff in game is from PHB and no other modules, with very few exceptions) -Will there be an enhanced edition? Maybe. Larian has a history of making enhanced editions. But there's nothing confirmed for BG3. The issue here is that games like Pathfinder, Solasta, PoE were designed with these extra options in mind, so the framework for including them is part of the design. With BG3, such options need to be added after the fact, which is why we only recently got custom mode and why it's pretty barren in terms of options (Mostly just changing things that differ between the 3 base difficulties). Maybe we'll get a few more options such as adding Legendary Actions, but it's unlikely that anything close to what Owlcat provides in their games will exist. What is everyone's thought on the future roadmap of this game? To me It seems to have quickly turned into a "Dead End". It's not a live service game. Larian have little incentive to continue working on the game post release, the few patches we've had are bonuses. At some point they will want to completely shelve BG3 and work full time on their next title.

I feel the same way that Baldur's Gate 3 should never have been treated as a would-be live service game by fans and quite honestly cant see a future period and maybe that is for the better, given how it blew up followed with unrealistic expectations it came along with as consequence, if there would have been any future one of the things that should never have been touched on this long post release is rewrites of the more fundamentals of the story, perhaps better iterations of the same narration of story but no more than so.

It's a bit on the late side to be thinking about rewrites to improve later acts don't you think? Given the game has already been fully released for a while (And unlike some other titles, it was successful so no need to redesign anything) It's a pretty common complaint that Act 3 is lacking the polish and depth of the previous acts. I've seen this widely echoed in every BG3 fan space I've been to. You have fewer options in the way you resolve quests and you can't play with factions to the same depth you could in the first acts, especially Act 1. Companions have low reactivity to quests/conversations/the environment and a noticeable lack of banter compared to previous acts, there's way fewer camp scenes, plus there's some obvious cut/rushed content that could've been added back in (I think Gortash's alliance originally had a much broader scope, but one example that's obvious from the finished product is the Szarr Palace, where there's letters from Cazador's vampire niece that he kept in the attic, plans from several spawn to escape Cazador's control, and a confusing speak-with-dead that was later removed, but none of this is acknowledged by anyone or followed through on.) It's much buggier, too; even in the most recent patch, Mother Superior is refusing to realize I defeated her and warping back to her opening dialogue, and Wyll and everyone talking about him are extremely confused about which ending he actually got (in addition to Wyll responding to picking up Balduran's helm 3 times in a row.) Also, several characters give me dialogue implying I'm an origin character, or a different origin character than I was playing. Act 1 is the holy grail of all gaming experiences, Act 2 is very thematically tight and polished even if it's not quite as content-rich, and Act 3 doesn't feel quite finished. It was something I was hoping a definitive edition would fix, and I'm not so hopeful for that now. I can live without DLC, but leaving the climax of the game the way it is, give or take some bugfixes, makes me sad.

I agree completely, still holding out for a definitive edition that addresses some of the issues with Act 3.
Just leap the flames to take a chance...

I don't particularly feel any need for big changes or expectations of a road map. I bought a game, and I played the game. It was a good game, I might play it again, but I'd rather they made another good game I can buy than keep updating the old game. I wondered about expansions, but I don't really see how they would fit in. If they added another long mission in the middle it would feel like you were being distracted from the Absolute quest; and if they add something at the end it would either cheapen the existing victory ("Oh no, it turns out there's an EVEN BIGGER problem"), or it would depend on who you're friends with at the end, and given that I've only played once it's possible that they are doing different things after the main quest depending on what happened.
Before the news that they're not making a sequel I thought that a better option would be another story in the same engine, but given how much writing, level design & animation there is in a game this size, I can't really see them saving much time. It would just be the next Larian game and they might as well do a few years' engine updates too.
As for the difference between BG3 and D&D rules, I think that's more that they altered the rules as they felt better fit their game. There are things you can do in a tabletop game that just can't be done in a video game, and they must have thought the balance worked better with other changes. What I'm saying is, changes to the rules if people want to play with pure 5e rules seems to me to be a better fit for mods than an official patch, assuming such a thing is possible.
I would quite like a character sheet export - like the character sheets you get in the deluxe edition, but including your custom characters and the stats you end up with. I'd also quite like a load of stats of your gameplay, like the number of long rests, number of fights, character deaths, opponents killed, etc. For some reason once I got to Baldur's Gate I was really curious about how many days (i.e. long rests) it had taken me since the nautiloid.

Given SV's comments on how elated the studio was to ditch the DLC I wouldn't expect much more than some bug fixes. Can't imagine they'll put out a DE. Reading that interview by SV it sounds like working on BG3 will be a form of punishment for Larian employees who are apparently all eager to move on.

What is everyone's thought on the future roadmap of this game? To me It seems to have quickly turned into a "Dead End". I think future development is only possible if there are good tools and modding opportunities. Otherwise, yes, it's a dead end. It would be great if, while adding mod support, Larian would also put all those character lines that were recorded and voiced, but not included in the game, out in the open for modders. They don't need them anymore anyway. And just the opportunity to listen to these lines would be a nice farewell gift for fans. I also dream that the modders will bring the EA scenes back into the game, managing to replace the EA character model with the final version of the character in the original game. -edit Oh and almost forgot to mention the possibilities of visiting Icewind Dale region, it is a really big shame we likely won't be able to have our big party of companions explore the more colder regions of the realm together, imagine how epic that would have been or even a possible standaloie DLC where we get to have .... I came across information somewhere that one of the previously planned DLCs (which have now been canceled) was just supposed to allow a visit to Icewind Dale. Yes, it is. Expectations were huge, but unfortunately turned out to be unrealistic. BG3 started out as pure excitement, it seemed like the best game of its time, which is why there were such expectations... Rewriting the fundamentals of the story is the last thing worth doing, and the fear of the possibility of such a thing, in my case, completely offset the sadness of the lack of a sequel. Better nothing than bad. Haha, yes, I agree, I got the same impression from this interview.
One life, one love - until the world falls down.

It really feels as though their hands are tide in changing anything D&D in BG3 due to Wotc/Harbro. Too bad. I really hope Larian's next game is completely original. Thats were this studio's work shines. Divinity is a weird, fun, crazy world...Larian SYSTEMS work well within these constraints.
