With Larian announcing that they will be moving onto other projects, it would be great to see more 5E campaigns using this beautiful game engine. Perhaps the engine could be released allowing modders to craft their own adventures. Perhaps it could be licensed for others studios to create with. Heck, even just allowing old games to be reimagined for a new generation would be cool. Can you imagine the gold box games being updated to 5E using this game engine?

Ha! Bespoke RPG engine is probably one of Larian's biggest assets. As much as I would like to see other studios taking advantage of what they have build I doubt they will be sharing.

I doubt it is engine tailored to be used by community (the way Bethesda or Aurora engine was). And with how high production the game is, Larian was likely to use 3rd party tools as well, and those they couldn't release even if they wanted to.

They did try to licence D:OS Tactics game, but it didn't pan out. I am not sure if they will try producing again anytime soon.

lol better chance that they’ll change their mind about the DLC than this happening.

Why does it seem so unlikely? Larian could license the game engine to other companies who want to produce 5E games or updates of classics. They could have a small team support this activity (or not) and rake in licensing money to support their passion project(s). It seems like a good business decision, and one that would create a big win with the fans.

It was not Larian's intention to release a modable, flexible D&D engine for people to enjoy for a couple decades (that medal goes to BG2).

Just a modern, content filled high quality story to the broadest player base and devices as possible.

When you try to include PC/MAC, the kitchen sink (Stadia) and EVERY consoles for release on your games, you can usually kiss your modding tools and game editing flexibility options good bye and the UI usually stinks (why we have this stupid Toilet Chain system, and console UI is awful).
But Larian as so much skills in making great games, they can make crap smell like sweet potatoes and make you love whatever they come up with, even though you know it was a stupid decision.

Larian has to be THE ONLY game company for me in which while I DEEPLY DISLIKE their games (weird UI choices, world building, graphic style, gameplay...), recognize they do make amazing games...If that makes sense. They are the TOYOTA of the gaming world.

It just reminded me of the bowl of goat's milk that old Winthrop used to put outside his door every evening for the dust demons. He said the dust demons could never resist goat's milk, and that they would always drink themselves into a stupor and then be too tired to enter his room..

yes they have the ideas and the drive to make great games, its dotting the i and crossing the t they fall over with

i expect some gold ed build may add better ui options for basic map edits and perhaps a few spells but you wont get the actual engine or even be able to understand it
