Do ranged weapons have a minimum range? Is there any disadvantage to using them in melee range?

You naturally get a disadvantage shooting with your bow and crossbow within melee range unless you pick up a feat (crossbow expert) or use an item to combat against it, disadvantage means you get two dice rolls and the lowest result gets used so there is a minimum range to avoid getting disadvantaged and works the same way if you shoot slightly outside of the maximum range as well, standing above targets elevation can also provide a height advantage.

You'll notice where the limit is once it starts imposing on you the disadvantage, otherwise there is not much of other differences, there is a ring on display for the maximum range sadly no visal cue's for the minimum range.

Ranged weapons do not have a minimum range, but you have disadvantage on ranged attack rolls when you have the threatened condition, which is caused by a hostile creature being within 5 feet of you.

Thanks both. Aside from crossbow expert you noted there are items to counter the disadvantage. Can you identify any of them?

I could be wrong in whether it works regardless of your distance to enemy but in Moorise Towers of Act 2 from merchant Araj Oblodra, can get your hands on risky ring.
