thx carrie! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />...is that what you calll quarter-cut, crossgrain.....same thing?? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />
all these burls grow like a huge walnut, and to make the table ,
the "walnut" must be cut like a "tomato" in slices,
so you would get maybe 3-4 good sized tables and a few smaller(end) tables,
out of a fair sized burl.
It's just the cross-grain that makes it look so shiny,
after sanding and shaping, and a nice coat of varathane, the thicker the better,
will bring out the hidden glow of the crossgrained cedar wood!
I'll walk down to the ARTSHOPPE......someday... and take some pics,
of the "nice stuff" he's got there! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
