Greetings. I have been a long time user of mods and have been using them in bg3 for a long time now but now I have a problem that I can't seem to fix.

My mod set in bg3mm was working fine even this morning but I added a couple of mods this late morning and all the sudden the game's modsettings.lsx keeps resetting to it's original state.
I followed a gent's guide on steam's website to try to fix this and it completely destroyed my installation of bg3. Even reinstalling it multiple times didn't fix that but I eventually got the game back to its base installation.
After I had the base game back up and working, I created a starter character and then exited.
Next, I installed my mods back into bg3mm BUT I left out the "newer" mods from after I knew it was working and I had bg3mm back to where it was before modsettings.lsx kept resetting.
I loaded the game, through bg3mm, as usual and once again modsettings.lsx reset.
I even cleared steam's cache and updated my video card's drivers and still modsettings.lsx keeps resetting.

I should point out that I am not getting any debug profiles. The game keeps using my original profile... the only thing changing is that modsettings.lsx keeps resetting.

I have been trying to fix this for hours now with no progress.

Does anyone happen to know a fix for this?

Do you mean there are no mods listed?

Are you saving the mod lit to file in BG3MM?

Have you checked that your "newer" mods haven't left any files behind after you removed them?

Correct, after the game is started and the modsettings.lsx gets reset, there are no mods listed, but before I start the game each time I do save the mod list to file in bg3mm and yes there are no files left behind. Before starting the game, I have gone to the modsettings.lsx file and verified that the mods in bg3mm *are* in the modsettings.lsx file before the game resets the file back to no files after I start the game.

I have read of other people having this problem for ages with bg3 but no one gives a fix for it that seems to work. If they did get it working again, they don't seem to have come back to their post to say how they fixed it.

As a side note, after this problem first appeared and the fix on steam's community pages ruined my game completely; I have done a complete fresh reinstall of bg3 and am still having the issue. With no mods installed I can run the base game apparently with no issues. I have created a regular tav game save before I started reinstalling the mods.

As far as I know, I have done all of the regular cleans and fixes.

I normally don't come here for a fix unless I am at a complete loss lol. I have been programming and playing games since I was 8 years old. The first ram cartridge was 256kb and my storage media was a cassette tape. The first games were all text based like Zork. So I do know the basics lol but this is something new to me.

Solved: the problem was modfixer. Last night a sticky was added to it's page in which the modder explained that you do Not need modfixer for everything. Modfixer is only used during character creation, in game, in which particular modded races cause a problem without a fix (when you first reach the cc page in the game where dark urge first pops up as the available character, the character on the center of the screen has several illusionary characters behind him in the cc and you cannot actually create a new character after the cc is broken like this).

He said to remove modfixer completely and if you are using basket full of equipment mod he said it is absolutely required that you use the version that is to be used without modfixer. There are two pages listed on the basket page on nexus... one with modfixer and one without.

Thanks Jordaker for trying to help

Long time modder on other games just now trying to mod bg3 after finishing group play through with firends, and running into this same issue. At start-up the modsettings.lsx is re-written to contain ONLY the gustav mod settings. I followed the advice above and removed the mod fixer but something else is still re-writing that file, If I watch the folder and immediately replace it with the config with the other mods, it seems too late, the other mods never activate when creating the new game. (I've also deleted the cache files before starting) regardless On the initial load screen it either hangs at 93% or writes a new modsettingslsx which includes only the gustav.pak and nothing under the <node id="ModOrder">

Leave mod fixer in your mods folder.
Likely one of the mods has an issue.
Add one mods in, to find which mod is causing the issue.

I have the same problem with the modsettings file. It is 1 KB in size on my PC. On my notebook it is 7 KB and mods work. I just can't play with high settings on the notebook.
The mods are the same. However, a working modsettings.lsx is created on my notebook that works, but not on my PC. I play with the DirectX11 version on both.
