I can assume that this is what prevents you from building a romance with him on a deeper level. It's hard to imagine the possibility in such a case for some sort of incremental relationship development. I've read that some monogamous Halsin romantics get frustrated by this. And that some of those who wanted Halsin as a romantic companion in EA also ended up disappointed with how that was ultimately realized. Halsin had good potential, the possibility of interestingly involving him in the main story, and motivation. I personally think that instead of adding fanservicey Jaheira and Minsc, they could have properly fleshed out their own characters - fill in Halsin (not with vulgarity, but with interesting storylines), finish Minthara properly by giving her more content, and allow both characters to be joined normally at once. In the future, when buying an RPG with the possibility of romance, I will always first find out who the authors of the romance scenes are, what the studio's overall approach to romance is, and so on. Unfortunately, in modern games, especially if this sad trend continues, a trust-based, "Oh, something interesting, let's play!" approach can lead to disappointment and an extremely unpleasant gaming experience.
