So I decided to travel to another waypoint to stock up after lowering the forge.

When I went back I couldn't see a way to re-raise it from up top. So I had everyone jump down but then I had to use a short rest and other healing.

So is there a way to re-raise it from the top?

Yeah, you can use a ranged attack to push the "Raise Platform" button that's next to the hammer lever.
