First off: this is not a Gale hate thread! I love Gale.

Second: Sorry if the answer is somewhere obvious, I googled it six ways from Sunday and all I found were a bunch of threads about uh, parting with Gale at different points in the story, and in uh, less savory ways than this.

But I'm doing an Astarion Origin playthrough now and Astarion finds Gale super irritating (it's canon!!), plus Astarion is very self-serving, and (mid Act 1 spoilers)
now Gale just told him about the orb, and thanks to Gale responding to an in-party comment by Lae'Zel, the silly wizard has now flat-out said in front of Astarion that he is now the greatest threat to all of our lives. Not kidding, that's exactly what he said, those were Lae'Zel's words and Gale was like, "Yep, I wasn't before but now I totally am!"

Astarion is a survivor and a me-first kind of guy especially at this point in the story, there is no WAY he is letting a walking bomb hang out in his camp. Gale even painted a lovely picture of how he can "resolve" the situation in the Underdark, and Astarion does not like him enough to care
. So I had no choice but to have Astarion say, mkay good luck with that somewhere very far away from us, see ya.

Let's leave aside how sad I will feel not having that doofus tagging along nerding out about everything he sees, and how I am missing a whole questline now - I can handle that. I have completed his questline twice now. I don't wanna play the same game every time, and this sure is... not a way I've played before. But I would like someone to spoil me as to any negative repercussions of sending him away mid Act 1 (besides no Gale) that I may not be aware of, before I get much farther into the game.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO RELOAD.

So tell me... what have I set into motion here? Anything unbearably bad?

You have no Gale - and you can't cheese the final battle. You might have lost the loot the character was wearing. On a personal level
I'd say you are of course missing out on the best ending of them all, which is the vampire book club. but I guess you weren't angling for that in the first place. shadowheartgiggle

two days from now your game will end when Gale goes pop but if that doesn't happen you are all good

In my only playthrough so far I told Gale to leave because I was playing on the basis that my character was afraid he might explode at any moment without warning (i.e. against video game rules). It was a tragic moment in the plot but otherwise I don't feel like I missed anything, except for not having a wizard and not having Gale's storyline. However I will play a future game and keep him.

I wonder more of the repercussions of cutting Gale's hand as TDU. Did he bounce back to the Hells afterwards? If thats the case, did he bleed out or did he survive? Could he possibly sustain the orb of the Hell's magic? If not, could he escape the Hells? If not, who did he take with him as he unleashed the big bang? smile

This is exactly what I was worried about, and was hoping someone had made this choice at this point and could assure me this was not going to happen. I get a lot done in two days of game time. Hoping I haven't just wasted it...

He won't explode your game if you send him away. He explodes your game if you don't take the cue to revive him within two days when he's died - as he tells you. (I have heard him being sacrifced to the fish people is also not a brilliant move.) If you send him away, he just goes away to die. Same if you kill Elminster before the orb gets stabilised.

Game over happens only if Gale dies and you can't resurrect him. Otherwise, you are good.

Okay so it doesn't result in catastrophe? Whew. I'm not sure how he solves his little problem without the player's help but at least I'll be able to finish the game reasonably. And yes, definitely play a future game with him in the party, and bring him along a lot - his comments are not only funny and unique but sometimes give really interesting and helpful information. The only time I'd suggest you NOT include Gale in your game is if the idea of him flirting with you is really disturbing or game-breakingly irritating to you for any reason.

Whew, thanks! I guess we're assuming that wherever he goes, he manages not to die. At least not near anything that matters...

He said that he would go deep into the Underdark and hopefully explode near some mindflayers so some good would come of it. Actually I wish he'd shown me the way to the Underdark before running off because I spent ages trying to find it straight after that grin

I wonder what happens to his "astral prism" protection if he leaves. At certain points in the game, it seems like leaving would imply that the protection stops. So Gale could turn to illithid before detonating. Then he would join the hivemind and the netherbrain could control him to use him as a weapon for his sake.

there have been reports of game ending even if Gale was alive when last seen but it is possible those people had mods that somehow messed up the code ormaybe they just got unlucky
