That's similar to Gale and the Necromancy of Thay. I am unsure if his dialogue for calling dibs on the book is still in the game, I never got it to trigger so he just randomly disapproves if you give it to Astarion/read it yourself.
Yeah, that is strange too. I mean, if he wants to have it, I understand, but he never says anything anymore.
