In tabletop I've always been the player who chooses classes and races to balance out the party. I find it fun and enjoyable to take that role and figure out the type of character that stands out from the rest and can fill a vacant role.
And because most DnD players will play one of the elf or humanlike races, I've become more used to the short and zoic races. So they were the ones I naturally gravitated towards in Baldur's Gate 3.
