I'm not sure, never played the grove raid, but maybe let your party rogue lockpick the cage? If it is the same cage, you find him in a good playthrough, it should be pickable. Or try the spell Knock ( maybe respec Gale for that).
But maybe someone, who did the grove raid, can tell you more.
