In fairness, although I could be misremembering things, I don't remember a big interactive scene for any of the companions during the questlines of the rest of the group. I remember them talking about it if you spoke to the companions after it was over.
The only individual who actually was able to interact was typically the PC. I mean in Act 3 you have Jaheira and Minsc interacting with each other, but it was kind of a given considering the context of the quest, but with Shadowheart? I don't remember any of the companions actively commenting during that situation while it happened at the end of the Gauntlet.
If I were to put them and the Durge side-by-side it would come across to me to be, on average, the same type of design.
Yes, but Durge is kind of a big deal here. You die. There should be at least an outcry from the companions, you are on good standing with and your love interest. I know that love interests have some lines, if you get downed in battle, so maybe a bit like that.
