Having multiple uses for rope would be best but, focusing on jumping across open spaces:
If characters are separated, one might toss a rope to the other, in order to help them cross an expanse.
The stronger character could share jumping distance with the weaker character while connected by the rope, for the purpose of jumping.
The rope would fall away when characters move out of range of the rope and / or just after one jump.
Alternatively, ropes could be pinned between expanses for all characters to use.
Ropes might be pinned to the locations of the two characters, so the rope might assist in more than one crossing.
There could be a turn timer to end the connection.
Perhaps they might disappear after a long rest.
In this case, it would mean that any gap could be crossed by any player, limited by the length of rope.
Perhaps this could be applied vertically as well.
I hope Larian takes my idea as a gift. I'd love to see them do a new D&D game and employ it there but I'll be looking out for the next Larian game in the latter half of the decade!
