I understand the choice to make the scene play out in 3rd person, what I don't completely understand (not that it's a huge deal, mind you, could just be your average slip and I'm being a picky nerd) is why it seems to be stated that Shadowheart and the player were also seeing it that way, since it's her memory of the event. Maybe dissociating from the memory?
Maybe also because she too is still trying to make sense of her fragmented memories by relating them to you? Like how you try to recall your steps when tracing a misplaced item: "First I went to the woods, then there was a wolf ...." She's still missing pieces like Viconia's face.
At least the scene feels more distant to me and more focused on the facts of what happened, while the purely narrated episodes of how Gale got his orb (especially the first if you go down this route), or how Karlach fought for and escaped from Zariel, seem to be much more focused on evoking emotions while the situations themselves remain a haze.
