I don't think it's bugged per se, more unfinished in that it wasn't properly adapted for player characters that aren't tall. For tall characters the kiss looks very nice and has a good angle. Also I do like the pensive expression both characters have when separating after the kiss, to me it feels fitting for the spawn route (before and after the ritual) and I'd hate to see it go.

Agree to disagree on the expression. I don’t read it as pensive. Maybe it looks different depending on what face model you’re using.

Is it unfinished or not triggering properly which would be a bug?

Well guess there’s no way to know. Either way it’s sad they haven’t fixed/finished it in all this time since patch 6.

Wait sorry I may have mis read. Double negatives often confuse me. You’re saying you think the kiss wasn’t properly adapted for short races? I think the kiss was adapted very well for short races. The camera focusing more on Astarion’s face instead of the back of his head is nice too.

All I’m saying is the cheek caress with the back of his fingers is really sweet and tender and should be there for all races not just the short ones.

I have seen a couple of clips of Avatar-Karlach and other tall characters kissing Astarion, in which case he has to look up, this gives a good view of both characters faces and also makes this weird leaning/stooping/bendy knee motion unnecessary. It looks nice and more natural, compared to Tavs that have the same size as him. But in both cases the angle also conveniently hides that Astarion's hand isn't animated at all. So, I think it's not a bug but that they ran out of time to make it look nice for all player characters and the same-sized player characters might just got the shortest straw in this case (weird angle, weird movement, stiff hand - stiff hands really as Astarion's left hand is also just flopping about) I hope that was less confusing. ^^

Maybe the expression looks different depending on the model. In my case also both my character and Astarion have what I'd call a pensive expression when separating before Astarion transitions back to smiling when making his theatrical post-kiss comment. It's the one thing I do like about that kiss.

I guess I can see what you’re saying. That the cheek caress animation was intentionally made to not be there with certain heights, in which case it wouldn’t qualify as a bug.

I still think it would’ve looked better to have it even if the camera angle switches when they separate to hide that side of the player characters’ face. Like the motion of his arm would still show the intent of the caress and look more natural even if we can’t see his hand.

I do agree the body animations of the kiss look better for larger than Astarion characters.

If it’s true they ran out of time that really sucks cause spawn astarion got only one new kiss in the update while others got so much more. Like no diss on Gale but did he really need 4 different final kisses before the battle…

Or maybe they didn't care? I might also be completely wrong because the same-seized version of that kiss just looks very odd to me over all. A bit awkward, if I should sum it up in one word, so I might just be hypercritical of it. Otoh a lot of people seem to really like the weird bendy motion, so what do I know?

But thanks to your comment, I looked at the shorty version with disguise self and it's really very cute, I especially like that Astarion is touching the character back with the left hand. I had only looked at it on yt before shortly after that patch released and it had looked much like the taller versions there.

Gale smooches are absolutely needed, because they are awesome!

It was because of hearing that so many people liked the body type 1 version of the kiss(the only complaint I saw was about the camera angle) that for the longest time I ignored how awkward I found it.

Once I saw the free cam clip of the kiss with a short race and the extra bit of animation at the end, I was thinking oh the kiss has to be bugged and that’s why it looks awkward. I was sure or maybe I just wanted it to be. Because if it was bugged then that meant it could potentially be fixed.

Oh well.

Anyway yes Gale’s kisses are awesome. I’m going to “borrow” them first chance I get on console.

Agree. Honestly, it's mind boggling. These kisses are clearly in the game's files (people were able to datamined it), but people are not able to trigger them in the game.

Considering that EVERY other companion has 4 different and unique kisses, I think it does constitute as a bug, because it's very clear that Larian tried to make it even between all the companions, even rarely recruited like Minthara. It doesn't make sense they would single out only Spawn Astarion like this.

Definitely. I suggest everyone to send their personal feedback to Larian, because this is extremely disappointing that they didn't find time to fix his kisses in the span of 6 months which Patch 7 took to make.
It looks like people didn't complain about Spawn Astarion being left out, so Larian forgot about his issues. If people remain quite, they will just continue to ignore this problem. And don't forget to mention that neither AA nor UA has an endgame kiss.

Just here to express my wish that Astarion hopefully at the very minimum gets at least one more kiss. Really love the two that he has (especially the one with the raised arm as it's incredibly sweet and romantic), but yes the lack of variety is definitely felt due to only having two, often the same kiss repeating multiple times in a row because of such a tiny sample of kisses.

• With just one more sensual kiss it would increase his pool variety enough to make the experience feel less artificial by not having the same kiss repeat multiple times in a row so often.
• And if they would also add the default 'quick peck on the lips' as well into the mix it would be the perfect amount of variety.

Getting his original peck back would be cute, especially since it corresponds with the dialogue in that you give him a peck instead of the other way round.

As for the rest, I'll be the heart-broken record in that I'd really like to see his second kiss fixed for same seized characters. Adjusting the camera angle would probably already go along way to hide how uncomfortable is looks especially for male player characters. The leaked neck kiss has also made me somewhat apprehensive of facial expressions because I am not a fan of the over the top ecstatic - aka orgasm - face the character has in this "preview". It is just silly and not in the good way, especially if your character does not give Astarion nightly blood.

Was not aware there was a leaked neck scene, but now that I've seen it YUP! Gimme that too!

Definitely should've been a part of the romance to begin with, as a vampire being intimately playful with the neck should be a given.

I loveeeee the leaked kiss hehe, I hope they implement it soon or at least something similar and sweet. <3 I always found it weird how the vampire didn't have a neck kiss lmao. I also love the idea of the cute little peck being added too, it's so sweet.

As long as my character isn't making utterly ecstatic expression because Astarion is showering their camp outfits or armour with kisses ...

Jesting aside and gear related, it would be cute if the characters could take their gloves off for that newish kiss.

I do agree I wish we could remove the gloves lol, and get the instruments out of the way even when they are toggled off... I currently use a mod that gets rid of the instruments during kiss scenes but I feel for others on console and have the issue of instruments showing up even when they are toggled to not show
