Strange... I would have thought that the skill would be set when the mouse was moved over it to pick it up (as with equipment properties). I have found/bought 'Spark' spell books which taught a level of Lightning or (IIRC) Elemental Hail, but I just assumed that was chosen before you actually 'read' it.
Strange! All the spellbooks I ever found bore the names of the spells they contained!
