That's pretty much what a Dark Urge ending should be. Morbidly sinister yet poetically romantic, sharing together in the madness with their love interest... a deranged power couple like the Joker and Harley Quinn, Bonnie and Clyde... if only Larian cared even 1% about telling an intricate evil story with some satisfying nuance.

Yeah, I totally agree. Poetry is an ingredient that is sometimes just woefully lacking in the dish called “Larian romance”. And while the “dark romances” got definitely more poetry, like Astarion's “Aeterna Amantes” or Minthara's “Alurlssrin”, that ending for the DU's who accepted Bhaal, which is now in play, just turns the whole thing into... Something that can only be categorically discarded.

I will mourn the lovely romance moments that were exclusive to the Chosen Durge relationship:

“Bhaa'ls army will be an unsurpassable dowry. I cannot wait for you to claim it.” - AA to Dark Urge after they accept Bhaal.
I love the dowry line, it supports the vampire wedding concept, and how he views their relationship as a unified/married couple after the turning night.

“I'm with you, my dear - wherever this leads.” - Astarion to Dark Urge when Jaheira and Minsc attack them for accepting Bhaal. The devotion!

Not to mention the Amelyssan prophecy about their immortal love:
'One night, in thousands of years, you will watch the stars collapse in the heavens in each other's arms, and be broiled to the bone.'

Astarion: "How romantic."

Personally, I preferred playing my Durge as happily good/redeemed and I still love having her be together with Ascended Astarion. I see him as one of the most loyal companions, as no matter if your Durge decides to embrace their evil side or not, AA is happy either way and he remains devoted.
But I still loved the option for evil Durges to embrace Bhaal, and the unique romantic moments available to them with AA. frown I wish there was a better option available to them in their romance with the new ending.

Especially this: “'I'm with you, my dear - wherever this leads.” And that devotion is supposed to lead him to this...? If I had gotten to that ending, I would never be able to play a character with the face that my DU would have had in that walkthrough again... Although I also like playing a redeemed DU with Ascended Astarion the most, especially as a chaotic character who denies the gods, who is loyal to only one single person and doesn't want any “third superfluous” with their plans in his life, be it gods or humans. But to go for “evil” to the end is also interesting, and the variation of walkthroughs and replayability now also suffers from the inability to do so. I liked the dowry line a lot too... And Amelyssan's prophecy illustrates just the fitting ending you cited... It's odd that existing storylines have been completely forgotten and ignored in this new ending.

He asks you about your opinion and then invites you to show you what he means so you understand him better. He's even surprised when you show romantic intentions, so the whole thing can have a purely platonic feel if you so choose.

I agree, before the party this dialog seems much more logical and natural, and you can leave it at a friendly level. Moral - rest more often in Act 1 so that the scenes fit well into the plot (I had Lae and SH fighting from a prism I already had at the time, so I guess Gale was also late with his proposal due to my lack of long rests).
