Right, I've read about people doing something like that. But no one was hostile to me in the Grove after that first encounter very early in the game. I played all of act 1 without an issue, and the guard only gets uppity with me at the celebration.
I can't really revert to am earlier save, because I'd have to undo almost the entire game so far, which is a bit much.
