So yes when you're in act 1, go to the basement where you find the Necromancy book and have Astarion interact with the bear, they'll be a passive nature check, he NEEDS to fail it. So you can either use the Nexus die mod to force fail the roll or savescum.

Then click on the bear until you hear him say "Rawr", sometimes you have to click a few times since he has a few different dialogues. I always do it each playthrough. xD
