The OP has already clearly stated that they want this thread to focus on things that seem inconsistent or counterintuitive and therefore could conceivably be bugs, which is not unreasonable given how complex the dialogue trees are and there have been and still are multiple other bugs with dialogues.
As the OP has requested, let’s not have this thread derailed by discussions of other elements of Halsin’s romance or how he interacts with other romance partners, or by importing drama and debates that are only tangentially relevant here. Thank you, that's exactly what I'd like the focus to be on. I've seen in other threads that you and others put a lot of work into keeping things on topic and I'm really hoping that possible bugs can stay the focus and we can leave that kind of drama out of it. As you're a moderator here, do you maybe have an idea to what extent Larian looks at this forum and uses the suggestions and feedback forum for things like hotfixes? Hi, Larian’s Community Management team do keep an eye on these forums, though if you want to be sure something you think is a bug is seen and tracked then you can also submit a bug report to Larian support (there’s a link in the launcher). Though I’d be very surprised if Larian weren’t already well aware of the issues raised here. Beyond that, I’m afraid I don’t have any insider knowledge but will comment that my experience as a BG3 player is that hotfixes are small releases between patches that tend to be for game-breaking mechanical bugs so I definitely wouldn’t expect a hotfix specifically for this, and that if this is changed it would probably be in a full patch along with a bunch of other stuff. But that’s just terminology. As to whether, given what Larian have indicated is limited remaining development time, fixes to Halsin’s flags are even on the backlog or will make it to the top of the priority list before development stops, I couldn’t guess. Personally, I would like at least some minor tweaks where Halsin’s behaviour doesn’t seem to make sense to me, but there’s also lots of other stuff I’d like to see addressed too!
"You may call it 'nonsense' if you like, but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!"

Thanks for the thorough response The Red Queen!
I'll write up a bug report soon as well then, possibly referring to this thread if the form allows that.
Hopefully this will make it into a patch of sorts then. The issues raised here are definitely not game-breaking mechanical bugs, but as you say they are minor tweaks and I'll keep my fingers crossed that these "easy" adjustments of fixing dialogue flags fit within the limited remaining development time. The alternative would be something like community patches with modding becoming more accessible now I guess, but other than bringing attention to issues I don't have the know-how to make these kinds of adjustments myself unfortunately.

Anska, do you remember how to trigger the platonic conversation in game? I've been trying to get it, and I even have the mod that shows flirting tags, so I don't accidentally do that. If I say the "What now? You've got what you wanted, after all" line, I don't get the "Indeed, but we cannot yet say the same for you. I promised I would help you, and I intend to keep that promise, however I can" dialogue. I get the "I have. But perhaps there is more that I want..." line instead. Plus, the mod shows that asking that has a flirt tag, and when I tested, it led to him saying, " Once the power of the shadow curse was broken, the connection was undeniable. We both felt it" when I turned him down in act 3. I thought I was just asking about his plans. He was living in my camp, after all. I know I'm replying to an old comment, but I really thought I'd get the friendship dialogue this time. It feels like a puzzle I just can't solve LOL.

Oh, that has been such a long time ago. I recall that on that run, I had not taken him along for the last part of Thaniel's quest, and had not made him a full companion either (you only get the other companions' reactions after you have invited him into the group at least once, so I guess it registers somewhere) so I only had neutral approval with him during the dialogue. Maybe that makes a difference?

Thanks for letting me know what you do remember. I did have him in my party for Thaniel, and that gives lots of approval. I'll be pretty annoyed if his dialogue calling you "unwavering friends" requires avoiding conversation, grouping with him, or having good approval. That would be quite the oversight. :P

Yes, it would be a shame but I feel that's the way it is. In my current run I pretty much forgot about him until his quest became relevant, took him along and sure enough, his affections stirred. But, on a positive note, his dialogue now registers if you didn't ask about his love life and you can politely reject him without any awkwardness. Seems banishing shadows just is his love language. (If any dev reads this: thank you for the fix!)

(If any dev reads this: thank you for the fix!) I'm reading you all and...I never had any problem with Halsin on patch 7. I never ask about his love (because it's obviously a romance trigger) and as you wrote Anska, I never had any problem rejecting him kindly in act 3 (I was at max approval too, I think). This is super weird to read that many of you got weird reactions from him, I'm wondering why it happens to some players and not to others.
