I've been getting this error when I try to join my friend who has been hosting our playthrough. We have tried restarting the game, restarting steam, joining through "Direct Connect", trying to join by not being on steam and nothing has worked. If you've had the same issue, I hope you can help

Same issue here, we have tried all of the above and a few more things. The only workaround is to start a new multiplayer game, invite your friend and then load your latest savegame.

The downside is that we now have to go through this every time we want to play. Would really appreciate it if anyone has a "real" fix for this.

BTW, me and my friend both play on PC via Steam, latest game version, no mods (this is our very first playthrough, we have never installed any mod since buying the game).

I see the same issue on the GOG version. The problem started when we saved on a red map (no rest possible). Going back to a non-red map save seems to fix the issue. Looks like a bug to me ...q

Still having this issue... We are on PS5 and have tried every trick in the book to join. Mods, no mods, uninstall, reinstall. Still nothing. Would be nice if we can play atleast at Christmas.

Today my pal and I attempted to return to the multiplayer game that we've been doing weekly / monthly for about a year now. He received the, "joining failed can't join this game right now." I found this thread, so we backed up to a save in a safe area and started from there.
We're at the end of the game, just about to encounter the Nether Brain. Going back to a safe save took us to the Morphic Pool. I think everything is red-zone after that. After playing for a while, we decided to test by having him leave and see if he could join again. He could not.
At this point, we didn't have the five to eight hours that we estimated it might take to play through without an option to save in a safe zone, for the next game.

My question: "Do we know if this is a new feature or a bug?"

He and I thought it might be a patch to increase the difficulty of the bigger battles. This thread, on the other hand, makes it sound like we should be able to save in a red zone and then reload and restart our multiplayer game.

While in a redzone, your game is not joinable. You need to gather your party before advancing beyond the Morphic Pool.

Does this mean that it is impossible to return to a multiplayer save in a red zone with the same (IRL human) players?
I feel as if we had done this many times before act III.

It's both a feature and untested code changes which you could call buggy

Had this error “Joining failed; can’t load this game right now”. We had just gotten to Act III, but when we left off, we were in combat.

To work around the issue, The Host for my game went back to an older save, where we were not in combat. All characters were at Camp, then we each requested to join the game. The Host was then able to accept the request to join, and I did not receive the Error message. Once we all loaded at camp, the Host loaded the newer save. Hope this helps if anyone else runs into this issue.
